Choosing Speakers For Gaming Comp = Surround Sound, But 5.1 or 7.1?

I've been getting ready to make a gaming room in my house and have been wondering between two sets of speakers, the Logitech Z-5500 and the Creative Gigaworks S750 system

Now, the Logitech one is a 5.1 system and the Creative is a 7.1 system. From reviews, it looks like they are both great systems. However, I have a 12ft 11 in x 9 ft 4 in room. Will I detect a noticable difference between a 7 spekear and 5 speaker system, or is the room too small for 7 speakers and I should just save money by going with the 5?

I know this following question if off topic, but please forgive me of this infraction, for I am curious.

What is the fascination with buying these computer speaker systems? For a little bit more than the price listed for the Creative GigaWorks S750, one could have a drastically better 5.1 audio system if composed of a select specific few home audio components.

They come out of a box, you plug them in, and they work. The sound is not fabulous, but for gaming, who cares? I haven't run into too many well recorded pianos in gaming tracks. Cheaper and simple works for a lot of people.

Well thanks for the opinions, ScottMAyo is right. I know it'll be a big improvement over my current 2.1 system, but I'm not an audiofreak. I'm trying to save a bit of money. Is 7.1 too much for my size room? 12 ft 11in x 9ft 4in

I owned the Logitech z5500s in a similar room and they filled it with a very distinct sense of surround. They had a good subwoofer that will work well, and I was pleased with them considering that a paid $230 shipped. It was my first suround set-up and they worked great!

Games and Movies sounded great on them, but music wasn't as good as some reviews may lead you to believe.

They were very loud and you shouldn't have any problems filling your room.
