I have the Yamaha rx-v757 and when I turn it up really loud it shuts off. When I turn it on I get a check speaker wire message. I checked the wires and cant find a problem. Why would this happen at really loud volumes and is there any connecters I can use on the ends of the wire which ensures they are connected properly.

You may need to use a magnifying glass to look for strands?

Does the amp shows that message if you disconnect the speakers?
If you have not tried that yet, start by pulling the speaker wire at the speakers first, perhaps one speaker at a time and see. If the message disappears, at one of the speaker terminals, that was your problem.

Second, what is your speaker's impedance? That will cause a warning light at high levels and amp gets into protection mode or a warning mode.

All of my speakers are at 8 ohms. The connections at the back are a bit sloppy. Is there something i can attach to the speaker wire to make a clean connection at the back?

I always use banana plugs. Here is a link to the IW16PLUG which are affordable and work very well:

Banana plugs provide a very clean connection and are very easy to plug/unplug when you need to. There are solderless plugs on this same page, but if you use plugs you can solder, you should get a better connection.

This is what the yammies do when they go into self protect mode. There is nothing wrong with your wiring. I think it's Yamaha's way of telling you that you are going to damage something.

There is no 'protection' mode on the Yam line anymore?

Hard to know what they really mean when it says 'check speaker' wire and mean something else altogether.

Check wire message.

Overloading the amp with low impedence 4 or 6 ohm speakers will cause it to go into shutdown. A short in the wiring will also produce a very low impedence and cause the amp to go into shutdown, thus, the check wire error message.
Feel the top of the amp when this happens. It is probably hot.
