Cheapest THX Ultra 2 cert receiver/prepro?

I would be grateful if anyone could assist in this. I am trying to find the least expensive THX Ultra 2 unit on the market right now; discontinued or current.

Want a second unit and don't have the budget to dish out $$$$s.

Have tons of external amplifier power available, so prepro is ok, but the receivers today are packing so much "heat" that I can see getting a receiver just for the processing power.

"Only" 5.1 processing is not a dealbreaker, but must have component video out.

I am sure this thread could be of interest to more than me, so I hope you people will share some of your insights.

Thanks.

Why is the THX certification so important when you plan on prepro anyway?
Seems like you can get a non THX amp with good processing circutry and use your amp and save a lot of mulla.

A second hand/used Denon 5803, 5803A or upgraded 5800 fits the bill. All are THX Ultra 2 certified. :)

Many Onkyo and Kenwood's are THX certified. Look for those used or "B" stock.

I have agree with krzywica. Ask yourself why would pass on a receiver that sounded better and was cheaper than a THX certified machine?

If THX is a deal breaker for you then go to THX website www.thx.com and find the list of THX Ultra 2 receivers and search places like ebay, audiogon, and search engines like amazon, pricegrabber, etc.

Good Luck

OK, I hear ya. I thought that the THX Ultra 2 cert had something that non-cert units didn't. Except for that higher pricetag, I mean.

I would be very glad to get input on any unit non-certified that exceeds in sound and quality these suggested Ultra2 units.

Thanks for all your input.

What is your price range?

What is it going to have to drive 4/8 ohms?

Any specific hardware/software that you are looking for?

dude,

THX cert doesn't isn't important to a receiver; it deoesn't mean that its better than a non-cert. Find some other criteria for picking your receiver. Or buy the THX sticker ;)
