cheapest receiver w/ upconversion and crossover

I'm trying to help a friend of mine with a very limited budget. He built a new house a few years ago and had it all wired for 5.1 surround but has yet to be able to get a receiver. I am trying to help him find a budget receiver with some decent options.

The options it really needs to have is upconversion of everything to component video and adjustable crossovers. As OSD would be nice but not a priority. I've been looking around but would greatly appreciate your suggestions. Power is not really and issue as any modern receivers should supply enough for his needs. Thanks.

The vast majority of current mdoel receivers these days have an adjustable crossover, so that shouldn't be a problem. The other part, video transcoding is not entirely common. You might have to look at something a little more expensive to get that.

When saying "budget" it will help if you can include what that budget might be.

when you say upconversion, you mean being able to input a composite or s-video and have it output onto component/HDMI, or are you talking about upscaling?

yes, upconvert composite and s-video to component output. If this isn't very common I guess he just won't be able to have it.

some of the lower model Denon receivers do upconversion, but not sure about their crossover settings.

Yamaha HTR-5860

My Yamaha HTR-5860 is the lowest Yamaha model that offers video conversion from composite and S-video to component video. It has plenty of features including good bass management (crossover settings), auto setup, and Parametric Equilization.

You should be able to find some authorized online dealers selling it for about $350.

I'd say that the Pioneer 1015TX is a good option. It has all of these features. In addition, if you can find a friend that works at Best Buy, you can pick it up for a steal of a price. The normal retail is $450 at Best Buy.

But, since I think Best Buy is a terrible company, you can get it from here for the same price (you have to call). They're a good company and an authorized dealer.

Thanks guys, the Pioneer is looking great, I actually looked at it before but completely missed the video upconversion. Any complaints with it? If not, I'm going to recommend it to him, it looks like a lot of great features at a good price.
