Cheapest receiver for component -> HDMI

The cheapest way to turn a component input to HDMI might be a more appropriate question, but it will probably have the same answer.

The component inputs on my TV are all but dead and the only component source I have is my Wii.

Onkyo 605? Not sure if the 50x will do transcoding/upconversion or not.

I know the 674 will transcode to HDMI, I'm not sure about the 605, I couldn't find the manual on-line. The 575 will only transcoed to component.

The Sony STR-DG910 will transcode to HDMI too, I *think* that the models form Yamaha, Denon and H/K that transcode to HDMI are not in the category of "cheapest".

Yamaha Receivers

The Yamaha RX-V661 will output a component video signal over HDMI. I have seen some deals on older models like the RX-V1600 which also have this feature.

The Yammy V661 and Onkyo 605 look like the best bets - any comments on which one to choose?

edit: Actually, it appears the 661 will not transcode component to HDMI.

The 605 might be the only choice under $400.

Nope, it will not. It switches HDMI signals, it will not output anything but HDMI over HDMI. I love it, as I did not need that but if you do, look elsewhere.

The TX-SR605 Onkyo will work. I bought one last month and it is in my bedroom theater system. The bad news is they are on backorder from Onkyo! I have orders for eight of them at my shop right now and another fellow in the store yesterday that would have paid full retail if I could have gotten it for him right then. It really is alot of bang for the buck!

I think if the component signal is not HD the Onkyo 605 will only upconvert it to 720p. If you have a HD component, you can switch off the upconvert and pass the signal straight through. I think the higher versions of the new Onkyo line, like the 805 (and maybe the 705 -- not sure) will upconvert a component to 1080p.

I have a 605, it a great receiver for the price. I feed it HD signals via HDMI and don't rely on the upconversion very much.
