Is there a device that reads MP3’s off your memory card (or internal hard drive) and streams this data through a digital connection into your AV processor? The ideal solution for me does not exist, and that would be an iPOD with a digital output and a simple docking station to sit on top of my rack and plug into my Outlaw 990 Pre/Pro. In other words a MSB iLINK that does not cost a few thousand dollars. I am familiar with the Wadia digital docking station, but it’s not the same as the iLINK which requires a modified iPOD. I don’t own an iPOD so even if I settled on the Wadia I would have to add in the cost of a Nano.
I don’t want to use a PC or wireless Ethernet so that rules out the squeezebox & media center PC or just streaming it over wireless. It does not have to be portable like an iPOD – it just has to read memory cards or have an internal storage with a USB port so I could upload music to its internal storage from my laptop, and a digital output so I can use the DAC’s in my Pre/Pro.
Does this device exist, or is that why the iLINK & Wadia are still around?
