Cheap Speaker Setup

Hi Guys,

This is my first post and I'm pretty new at this so sorry if I sound stupid.

I bought a Sony XBR6 - 40 inch and the sony S550 blu-ray along with an Onkyo TX-SR606.

I have a really small living room, 10x12 or so, wood floors with a rug on top, 1 sofa, windows on one side kitchen to the other.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what speakers to buy. I'm really only interested in a left and right, maybe a sub/center, only because it's such a small room and I don't need 5.1 right now. I was looking at a pair of Polk Monitor 50s for 190 or so but I also saw a pair of Athena LS-300s for roughly the same price. Could anyone give me some advice on these two or maybe some other recommendations in roughly the same price range or a little more expensive? Also, am I spending too little on speakers? For the polks, I was considering a CS1 for the center.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Is this just for movies/TV?

Even in a room that small movies would benefit from 5.1 sound, but you can get there starting with just fronts and build on those.

Yea, I eventually want to go up to 5.1, seeing as I bought the Onkyo 606 which supports up to 7.1, but I'm really looking to settle on the L/R mains first.

Look on craigslist, pawnshops, thrift stores, etc... You can get a seriously good deal if you dont mind used. I got my $1700 retail speakers for $100 on craigslist. It was extremely worth it.
