well maybe not "cheap" quality, but cheaper in price then the rediculous monster cable ones I checked out today

any good sources for them? Futureshop had 2 meters for 145$, not really willing to pay that, and seeing as how i ordered my HDMI from bluejeancables for sooo much cheaper than FS could have gave them to me, i figure there's a good source out there for opitcal cables as well?

Nice find, Andrew. I didn't know that they had an eBay store. Good stuff.

For a list of all of their optical cables, check out here (or just go to monoprice.com, click "Cables", and then "Audio Cables - Optical Toslink"). The one that Andrew pointed out is about $1.30 more at their regular store, but I'm providing this link in case you want something else (different length, different cable).

EDIT: OOPS! You got there already. Good.

To think that I paid about $30 or $40 when I bought mine 10 years ago. Sure, they were a lot newer back then, but mine is kinda whimpy. That cable that you linked to Sniperslayer looks like a great cable...and it's only about $9! I know where I'll be shopping for my next one.

Seriously, I have no life.
yea just checked out monoprice, just to confirm though, this:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10229&cs_id=1022901&p_id=2765&seq=1&format=2

is for this:

correct?

Yes, for that square looking outlet to the right of the orange spdif. It appears it has a little door on it that will just push in when connection it up.

Oh, no need to pay more, unless you are looking for acceptance in the 'golden ear' club :)

And, that is a great picture.

man..at these prices to think of the people who actually pay for the monster brand cables

i'm fairly sure today in futurshop for 2 meters it was 145$ and for the 5 meter one it was 375$ absolutely rediculous

Yep, I can also vouch that the Monoprice cable works just fine. I have that same one in the 2m version, I believe. I haven't bought any optical cables from Bluejeans, but I did buy an HDMI cable from them that's great.

Yeah, people pay weird prices for that stuff. I saw a 1m or 2m HDMI cable at BestBuy for $60. I paid <$10 shipped for pretty much the same thing...

I take it you can't use coaxial for this application? Same performance, less hassle and cost.

Another vote for Monoprice. Great quality, great service, great price...

I always prefer using coaxial if possible simply because when you plug an optical in, it's a bit flimsy.

Its amazing what you can find if you look around a bit. Monster has no ground to stand on as far as price, but most people don't take the time to look though. I too like Monoprice.

I prefer coaxial over optical too, not because I can hear a difference in sound quality, but optical cable connectors break and become unusable way too often.

Heck, Wal-Mart offers Phillips cable - $8 for 12 feet. It works for me, plus no shipping. Digital cables either work or they don't.:)

Another option is the pro audio world. You can buy optical S/PDIF cable by Hosa from any pro audio outlet. They are used to make the countless connections on digital mixers, they are very cheap and they transmit the data exactly like an expensive cable. I use them myself, not only on my digital mixer but in my home theater.

If I were to redo my entire wiring one day, I would get all my cables from Blue Jeans Cables.

My vote is for TendonUSA. Good cables that look nice for the price. 6 footer for $10 free shipping.

I understand why people buy Monster cables (not to say I agree with it). It's because they are pushed by all of the employees at BB or CC. It's basically the only cable they put near any of the high end TVs and sound systems. People just paid a few thousand on one of those things, so what's a couple hundred more on cables? Plus people want to set their systems up right away and don't want to wait 2-5 days for their cables to get there.

I mean it's understandable, but I'm never going to be paying that much when I can just as easily go online and get the same quality for a tenth of the price.
