Alrighty. I have a Sony 55 KDSA2000 TV. I plan on purchasing the Oppo 971 DVD player. Now I need to pick out a reciever. The problem is that I want to go cheap. I only want to spend about 160-190 on this AVR. I have eyeballed the Onkyo 503 (even thought this is 7.1 and I don't really need the other 2 channels) but I am unsure if there are any better options out there. It only needs to be 5.1. I will be using the CHT Frontrow speaker package and the BIC H100 sub to fill it out. Tell me what you guys think or if there is a better option for the receiver.

Thanks

The Onkyo 803 has an msrp of $800 - just a wee bit more than your range of $160-$190.

You may be able to find a model like the 502 around $200, especially if you look for B stock.

Pioneer 816

I just picked one up this week for my bedroom setup, it's $300 but can be had for $250 - that is what I paid.

I would not want to go lower than this, but they also have a model under this one. Pioneer offers more features in it's bottom dollar AVR's then Dennon, Yamaha or Onky.

The onkyo 503 is a great deal for the money, i think you would be very well served by it.

How about a Sherwood, they still make 5.1 receivers I believe. I used to have one, I thought it was very good for the money, and I never had any problems with it.
