Cheap and Strong with Wood Finish AV rack?

These over dressed bookcases are super expensive!

I'm looking to buy an amp and before I do, I'll need to expand my AV realestate.

The Emotiva MPS-2 (one of my amp option) weight 114lb. Not every rack can take such a mass!

I don't like the metalic finish and prefer the darker woods.

Any idea of brand to check out? Sanus and Salamander are nice, but pricey!

A good website to check out is www.racksandstands.com. I've heard some good stuff about studiotech A/V furniture as well.

But you may have blow some scratch on some good looking furniture with darker wood.

I have one of the Platues from R&S which easily holds my MPS and my big center channel and it only cost 700 bucks with free shipping.

Thanks for posting those pics. That looks nice. I am considering the same thing since my Center channel is 27.5" wide and it's hard to find furniture to fit it. I also like it much better without the doors.

One quick question, is it possible to remove the door rail also?

The upper rail is slot cut into the wood and the lower rail is metal that appears glued onto the wood. I guess you could try to remove it but I dont know how it would turn out. It would be easy to paint it the same color as the wood or even place a wood piece over it if you want to go through all the trouble.
