Cheap 2.1 for a friend

A friend of mine that is not into this stuff was about to buy a "youknowwhat..begins with a b" system for his new flat screen. I told him he could save a lot of money and get something different that sounded a lot better...we've all had these conversations. Checking around I put together this system for around $700 (actually a little less). Didn't spend a lot of time researching this and I usually don't look at the entry level stuff a lot but how does this sound?

Pioneer 520 (their new entry level)
(2)Boston Acoustic CS26s or Infinity P162s
Velodyne 10" sub

He lives in an apartment so doesn't or can't be that loud and he can't chop up walls.

Where are you getting the pricing for all of that? And will he be needing stands for the monitor speakers? What model is that subwoofer?

The sub is a VX-11 for $170. I don't think he needs stands but if he does I have a pair I'll give him stuck away in my garage. Keep in mind, he really isn't into this stuff. I had to explain to him why he would need a sub to begin with. For all I know he when out today and bought the b.....

When I told him how much I had into my system he almost fell over. And it's pretty modest. Of course he said, "Well I know B...s is the best and I've never heard of these Monitor Audio things you have." Not quite that nasty, but you get the drift.

I've seen the CS26s for $160/pr and they look nice. But for $108 (B&H Photo) he could get a pair of Behringer B2030P which are homely but sound just as good. A refurb TX-SR607 for $279 (accessories for less) brings us up to $390. Add the cheap velo or an Emotiva SUB-10 for under $300 and you're styling.

Edit: FWIW the entry priced Velos aren't bad small apartment subs.
