I don't know where to put this so I stuck it here. I'd like to start some kind of real campaign to get networks to stop putting up those translucent station ID icons on the screen as well as a advertisements for upcoming shows.

It's gotten ridiculous. I was watching Batman Begins on one of the cable channels and the station ID was there marring the bottom right of the screen. The top right had a constant logo for an upcoming show and the every few minutes, the upper left flashed a different promo.

Even Encore and pay channles have these logos. It drives me nuts and I want it stopped. I'm open to any idea to get the message tot he networks. This isn't just a rant, I really want this stopped.

It was not too bad when they started with the little ones that were only there for a few seconds, but all of these crappy animated ones that take take up a large portion of the screen have really started to annoy me also. I don't know what can be done either, but I'm with you :) I don't even watch that much TV; and when I do, I don't want to see ads during the show - isn't that what commercials are for? If I wanted pop ups, I would surf porn without a blocker.

I totally agree! It's so annoying, especially on pay channels. I mean, you've already paid for the content. You should be able to enjoy it in peace. Advertising is so over the top ridiculous these days. They used to just pay for a 30-second tv spot to get their message across, but apparently that isn't enough. We have to be annoyed during the programming as well!

My favorite is Fox. It's only happened during Family Guy. All the characters for an upcoming show run onto the lower left of the screen and then one of them "pauses" the show to plug theirs! Super-uber annoying!

I hear ya, Chris. That does sound annoying. I don't run into it too much because I just have an over-the-air antenna. So, I suppose that I can't complain too much because I'm not directly paying for it. That, and I watch TV series either on the web or on DVD when I can - fewer to no commercials (and none of those station IDs or ads).

Scifi Channel can be particularly bad too, they have promo's for new shows that cover the bottom third of the screen at times. My other pet peeve is some networks squish the closing credits of the shows to a little box and run them at hyper speed so they can show promos for shows during the credits, what's the point of even showing the credits, you'd never be able to read them anyways.

Okay then. Apparently I'm not being a little girl about it. I was trying to watch Batman on FX last night and the entire movie had a promo in big white letters in the lower right corner that was about 10% of the screen width.

So we all agree. Now lets figure out what can be done. Maybe Gene and the admins and moderators could give some guidance. Petition? Letter? Emails? I really think we need to get behind this because I don't think it's just people "like us" who find this annoying. I think everyone does.

Me too. It had a banner for some upcoming series called 'Sons of Anarchy' AND the commercials were for the same show!

It's getting way out of hand and basically makes TV unwatchable.

TNT is pretty bad at this. Or is it TBS? I dunno Whatever one has that show "the closer" Man, I would get so pissed off when im watching something and that stupid hoe' kira skedgtewickty comes on walking across the screen telling me about new episodes. WTF?! If I was at all intersted in that show I would have known already!

BBC America displays a gigantic bug through every episode of Top Gear touting some show that's coming on next. I don't care what's on next! If I want to know I can look at the guide!

HDNet does it all right. No bugs. Not one. That's the only station I've seen that does that.

If you really want to see top gear you need to download it, Not the watered down ones they show on BBC america that they chop like 20 minutes out of to make room for commercials. The new season started a month ago, Every sunday about maybe 8pm EST they are available for download, The episodes that aired that day that is. The rest are already there.

UPDATE: I sent a detailed email outlining the issue to about a dozen networks.

You should post a "form email" for everyone to start sending. If, that's acceptable to the mods (gods...) on the forum!
