Change driver on a sub question

I have an infinity interlude IL120s and was wondering if it would be worth changing the driver as opposed to buying a new sub. I like the quality of the construction and it has a good amp already. So could i swap it with say an SVS driver or some other company and get a good quality sound. Do i have to match a speaker to the specific dimensions of the box? Funds are tight right now so I'm just trying to maximize every penny. Any help

This question comes up again and again. The answer is no you can't swap drivers. Every driver has unique Thiel/Small parameters and requires its own box and or unique porting.

If you look through this page you will see how drivers have to be specifically aligned.

The IL120 was a pretty good sub in its day - about 8-10 years ago and still sought after by some wanting a good musical sub. Its difficult to tune - you need an SPL meter or the Infinity RABOS cd and sound meter to get it set up right. If you don't have it you might think about getting one. Take a look at the back and you'll see there are 6 adjustments to be made. The RABOS system will tell you how to adjust them properly.

As for the driver - its tailored to that particular box. Should it die you might be able to find a replacement but as long as its working its a leaveright in my book. And the best replacement is another CMMD driver from Infinity.
