The TV is set on HMDI 3, Yamaha controls the sound and channel amster controls the chanels, but I have it on the wrong setting. No signal fromt eh Channelmaster is gettign tot he TV. Any sugestions appreciated. Thanks Brian

Where and how is the channelmaster connected?
Which HDMI inputs on the Yamaha and TV are used and for what?

I have the HDMI cable running from the Yamaha that carries the signal between it and the TV. It is hooked into the TV in the HMDI 3 input. I put the Channelmaster input into the HMDI 4 input, but it is not working. Thanks brian

The easiest and best way is to connect the channelmaster to the Yamaha and control everything like input selection from that. The TV would just be on the same HDMI input channel all the time this way.
Its possible to connect it to the tv directly, but getting sound through ARC(hdmi) or optical to the Yamaha can be annoying.
Which method depends a bit on if you use the TVs smart functions or not, but if you do its still a good idea to use the Yamaha as the main hub and just use optical or ARC when using TV apps and not for the channelmaster or other things like blueray/playstation etc.

Edit: added space instead of a letter in some places :)

Almost forgot.
How is it not working, no picture or no sound or both?
Did you have the correct inputs selected on the tv and/or the Yamaha receiver?

No sound no picture. I can add a splitter to the HDMI 3 input and put the Channel master input here and revise the harmony start instructions. Thanks. Brian

Nono. Connect the Channelmaster to the Yamaha, not the TV. A splitter would not help at all in any way.

Also get things working right before you even think about setting up and using the harmony remote. Cant set a remote up before things work and you know how things need to be connected and what inputs are used both on the TV and the Yamaha receiver.

The HDMI 3 port on the yamaha is already taken up by the TV input.

Seriously, I have no life.
Does this Channel Master have a part or model number?

The tv needs to be connected to the Yamaha white HDMI OUT ports (the one marked with ARC might be best) not the black HDMI IN ports. The channelmaster should be on one of the Yamaha black HDMI IN ports. The signal needs to go from the channelmaster(out) to the yamaha(in) then from the yamaha(out) to the TV(in).

Edit: the Yamaha manual probably have some nice and clear pictures of how it needs to be connected to work if my text isnt clear enough.

Lee. The channelmaster is hooked up to the input HMDI 4 input on the yamaha. The Yamaha is hooked up to the HDMI 3/ARC with the Samsung. The signal from the channelmaster is not passing through to the TV.

Brian, it seems to be a bit all over the place when you are typing things out. Please detail your connections and I will give you my advice right now as well. It would also be helpful to give exact model number for the TV and the Channel Master. You basically said "I have a Chevy, what's wrong with it?" - We need the actual model to ensure we are giving accurate information.

Connect Channel Master HDMI OUT to any input on the Yamaha that you would like to use. In this case, you keep saying INPUT 4. But, make sure it is connected to the Yamaha, not the TV!

Connect HDMI OUT 1 (ARC) from the Yamaha to your television INPUT 3.

Turn on your TV, turn on your Yamaha, turn on the Channel Master.
Make sure your TV is on INPUT 3.
Make sure your Yamaha is on INPUT 4.
You should see the Channel Master image on the TV.
If you adjust volume, you should see the Yamaha's volume control go up and down.
If you do not see anything on the TV, you need to troubleshoot.

Troubleshooting:
Connect the Channel Master DIRECTLY to your TV, input 3. Make sure the TV is on, input 3, and that the Channel Master is powered on. Do you see anything?
If not, replace the HDMI cable with a different cable and try again. If no image, switch the Channel Master to another input on the TV and try again, make sure your TV is on the right input.
If you NEVER see an image with the Channel Master, it is possibly broken, or the TV is broken.
Try a different source, like a Blu-ray Disc player, or a DVD player, or a computer which has a HDMI output. Go through the same troubleshooting steps again until you see an image from the source on the TV.

If you see an image from the Channel Master on the TV when connected directly to the TV, then maybe you don't have the Yamaha properly connected or you don't have the source properly selected or similar. Maybe, even, one of the HDMI cables is bad.
If the Channel Master has been verified as good, and you have tested ALL of your HDMI cables, you now can move the Channel Master back to the Yamaha. Change the input you put the Channel Master on. Put it on input 1 (movie), then input 2 (STB), etc. Make sure the Yamaha is on and connected to input 3 on the TV. Make sure the TV is on input 3 as well. Make sure if you hit 'menu' on the Yamaha, you get an on-screen-display that shows up on the TV from the Yamaha. If you do, then the Yamaha is putting out video properly, if you do NOT, then there is a chance that something is wrong with the Yamaha (this happens).
Assuming you DO see an OSD from the Yamaha, match the current source of the Yamaha to the input you plugged the Channel Master into. Try all the inputs and make sure you have a match.

At the end of all this, if the Channel Master doesn't pass video, then you need to try a DIFFERENT SOURCE, like mentioned above, a Blu-ray player, a DVD player, or a PC or similar with HDMI output and see if it works.

If something else works, but the Channel Master does not, then it is likely a HDCP issue with HDMI originating within the Channel Master and the Channel Master will not work connected through an AV receiver like your Yamaha.

Let us know, IN DETAIL what you experience here and I can provide further troubleshooting and solution steps and ideas.

Here is what the back of your receiver looks like. Note that the ONLY connection between your TV and the receiver should be Yamaha OUTPUT 1 (ARC) to the TVs input 3.

I changed the input of the channel master to hmdi3 on the back of the yamaha and for some reason this worked. No idea why, but it worked.

OK. It worked for 24 hours then stopped working. I have a Channel master CM-7600. The HDMI cable out of this goes into the Yamaha RX-A780 AND IS SLOTTED INTO the HDMI input #. The HDMI1/ARC output from the Yamaha goes in the Samsung TV UN55MU6300FXZA and the input into the TV is HMDI3/ARC.

I have the Harmony remote activity "Watch TV" set to use these three devices. Currently the Yamaha is set on HMDI # 3 and the TV is set on HDMI 3. All the devices turn on, but there is no display on the TV. Previously I had the channelmaster input to the Yamaha on HDMI 4 and the Yamaha was set on HDMI 4, but changed it (moved the plug in to HDMI 3 & the Yamaha set up to HDMI 3) last week and it worked for 24 hours then stopped. This is the same setting I had when it did work, but now it will not.

This set up worked with my previous Denon receiver and I have Roku set up and it works fine. Not a cable issue.

Have I been clear and provided enough model information? Thanks. Brian

Does the Roku still work when the Channel Master doesn't work?
Have you tried using a completely different cable between the Channel Master and the A/V receiver?
Have you tried swapping the inputs of the Roku and the Channel Master to see if that makes any change?
What is the resolution of the output of the Roku?
What is the resolution of the output of the Channel Master?
The Yamaha should display an on screen display when you adjust volume or go into setup, does this appear?

I'm thinking that if you don't see anything on screen than what you are dealing with is a cable issue. That is, I'm guessing you switched to Yamaha because you needed 4K... Well, to get 4K means that you are now using a lot more 4K cabling and you are potentially running into the nuances of cabling which doesn't always work with 4K.

I'm leaning, rather heavily, towards this being a cabling issue, and you will want to be sure that ALL of your cables are 18Gb/s certified HDMI cables. It's good to have spares as there's a solid chance that one or two may not work every single time.

My recommendation:

Ok I changed the hdmi cable running from the TV to the Yamaha. Roku had stopped working and it was the hdmi cable. Still can't get the channel master to work though.
