Lee. The channelmaster is hooked up to the input HMDI 4 input on the yamaha. The Yamaha is hooked up to the HDMI 3/ARC with the Samsung. The signal from the channelmaster is not passing through to the TV.
Brian, it seems to be a bit all over the place when you are typing things out. Please detail your connections and I will give you my advice right now as well. It would also be helpful to give exact model number for the TV and the Channel Master. You basically said "I have a Chevy, what's wrong with it?" - We need the actual model to ensure we are giving accurate information.
Connect Channel Master HDMI OUT to any input on the Yamaha that you would like to use. In this case, you keep saying INPUT 4. But, make sure it is connected to the Yamaha, not the TV!
Connect HDMI OUT 1 (ARC) from the Yamaha to your television INPUT 3.
Turn on your TV, turn on your Yamaha, turn on the Channel Master.
Make sure your TV is on INPUT 3.
Make sure your Yamaha is on INPUT 4.
You should see the Channel Master image on the TV.
If you adjust volume, you should see the Yamaha's volume control go up and down.
If you do not see anything on the TV, you need to troubleshoot.
Troubleshooting:
Connect the Channel Master DIRECTLY to your TV, input 3. Make sure the TV is on, input 3, and that the Channel Master is powered on. Do you see anything?
If not, replace the HDMI cable with a different cable and try again. If no image, switch the Channel Master to another input on the TV and try again, make sure your TV is on the right input.
If you NEVER see an image with the Channel Master, it is possibly broken, or the TV is broken.
Try a different source, like a Blu-ray Disc player, or a DVD player, or a computer which has a HDMI output. Go through the same troubleshooting steps again until you see an image from the source on the TV.
If you see an image from the Channel Master on the TV when connected directly to the TV, then maybe you don't have the Yamaha properly connected or you don't have the source properly selected or similar. Maybe, even, one of the HDMI cables is bad.
If the Channel Master has been verified as good, and you have tested ALL of your HDMI cables, you now can move the Channel Master back to the Yamaha. Change the input you put the Channel Master on. Put it on input 1 (movie), then input 2 (STB), etc. Make sure the Yamaha is on and connected to input 3 on the TV. Make sure the TV is on input 3 as well. Make sure if you hit 'menu' on the Yamaha, you get an on-screen-display that shows up on the TV from the Yamaha. If you do, then the Yamaha is putting out video properly, if you do NOT, then there is a chance that something is wrong with the Yamaha (this happens).
Assuming you DO see an OSD from the Yamaha, match the current source of the Yamaha to the input you plugged the Channel Master into. Try all the inputs and make sure you have a match.
At the end of all this, if the Channel Master doesn't pass video, then you need to try a DIFFERENT SOURCE, like mentioned above, a Blu-ray player, a DVD player, or a PC or similar with HDMI output and see if it works.
If something else works, but the Channel Master does not, then it is likely a HDCP issue with HDMI originating within the Channel Master and the Channel Master will not work connected through an AV receiver like your Yamaha.
Let us know, IN DETAIL what you experience here and I can provide further troubleshooting and solution steps and ideas.
Here is what the back of your receiver looks like. Note that the ONLY connection between your TV and the receiver should be Yamaha OUTPUT 1 (ARC) to the TVs input 3.
