Center speakers and plasma TVs

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but…

I know that normally a center speaker sits on top of the television. But where does it go if your TV is a plasma? My plasma will sit on a stand and not be mounted on the wall. I asked a fellow at a local store that normally gives good advice, but he said instead of buying the Polk CSi5 I should buy an in-wall center speaker. He said it will sound as good or better. I don't really believe that; I think he was just making something up off of the top of his head. Can I run the wire in the wall (which I will be doing tomorrow) and have some sort of a wall-mount speaker jack and put the center speaker on a shelf of some sort? What should I do?

If it matters, I'll be sitting this TV on this TV stand.

Thanks a lot.

If the center speaker in question doesn't have a rear port then you can just put it in one of the center compartments of the media unit. But this depends on if the shelf on that stand will fit your center speaker.

You can use taller rubber feet for risers at the front if you want it firing directly at your head.

If your center has a rear port for bass though, you shouldn't enclose it like that, which is when you'd consider a wall bracket or shelf.

Well nevermind.

The Polk CSi5 is 16" wide and rear ported. It won't fit and it would do a disservice to it enclosing it within a stand.

Your best bet is a wall bracket above the plasma panel and point it down a touch, or get a lower profile A/V cabinet, wall mount the plasma and sit the center on top of the cabinet between it and the plasma.

TV with bottom speakers

I bought a Panasonic 50" Plasma TV at Circuit City in Atlanta for $2500. Since it had bottom speakers (not used by me), there was room to set my Klipsch (dual 6.5 inch) center speaker in front of the TV on top of the cabinet. The center speaker is 8 inches high.
