Center speaker stands for front projector

Is there any audio advantage to having a center speaker stand made out of hardwood vs. cast iron and steel?

Should the center speaker stand be back toward the screen wall or forward even with the front left and right speakers?

Any recommendations for a stand for a 28 pound center speaker?

If a metal stand isn't made properly, it could vibrate and perhaps be audible. Many metal stands allow you to fill them with sand or lead shot to deaden them. The best place for a center is even with the front L&R speakers.

Out of curiosity, may I ask why? I was under the impression that that wouldn't matter since the receiver would allow for the speaker position mismatch between the mains and centre in its Distance settings.

You can use electronic compensation, but acoustically speaking (as in the interaction of the drivers in the different speakers), it's best to have all three speakers in the same vertical plane.

Thanks Jaxvon. :) Of course the next question is: would one be able to tell the difference?

A difference in the vertical plane you would most certainly. I doubt you would the distance compensated for by the processor.

I would build a stand with aesthetics in mind. :)
You want it stable, of course. I seriously doubt cast iron or steel, unless paper thin, would oscillate with air movements from the speakers.
