center speaker height - the ACTUAL height

setting up my first 7.1 system so a question for all you "more experienced" folks (that's what most kids call me when they don't want to say "old" heh). i am going to be going with a aperion H6. i will be setting it under my samsung, directly in front of the screen. in other words, not wall mounting or cabinet mounting, which i would guess is the most popular way of using it. so as i whip out my trusty tape measure, i see that i have only 5 3/4" of space from the shelf the TV sits on to where the screen begins? WTF? what center channel is less then 5 3/4" tall? the aperion is listed at 8.5" high - that would cover up the bottom 3" of my screen. i know the aperion is a big center, but it seems all the others are only an inch or two smaller. what TV has an 8.5" high stand? so what do you guys do? put some books under the tv stand to lift it up? ignore the bottom few inches of the tv? i am thinking of building a wood 4" "riser" to set the tv stand on, but that's a real pain in the patoot to have to do. any ideas?

BTW, i know a lot of people will say to top mount it. i also can't find any good way to top mount a BIG center on a skinny LCD. any ideas for this?

i knew i can count on a fellow rat. thanx, yes i cannot believe that NO ONE not any stand manufacturer has thought up a solution for this. a bunch of google searches revealed nothing. but i did find this if any one else needs the help (i will now try to post a link which probably wont be allowed):

http://www.whitehorsepottery.com/desk_riser/index.htm

if the link doesn't take, then it's whitehorsepottery dot com and look for desk risers. nice stuff.
