Center - Shelf or Cubby?

Not sure where to post this...

I am planning a HT room reno, hanging the tv, hiding the av equipment, etc....

I was planning a hidden center channel. Putting my current speaker (BRLCR | Bronze BR | Monitor Audio) in a cubby and covering it with an acoustically transparent cloth. The speaker says that it works in 'on wall' applications but that is different isn't it. How will being in a cubby change the sound?

Maybe I will just leave center speaker point of the wall adjustable so that I can install an in wall speaker. (I will just have to beg Dennis Murphy to show me a center that will go with my ER18's :D)

Inside another enclosure is not ideal if you can avoid it. I would take the grille off and just leave the transparent cover you plan on putting in front of it and bring the speaker as close to the front as possible.

I will just shelf it. Wait to hide the speaker until I get one that is designed to be hidden.

The fronts of the speakers should not be recessed in the wall. They be at least flush with it, but protruding won't hurt.

If any speakers are rear ported they should not be flush against a wall.

I don't have my ER18's too close to the wall (about 12" to the closest corner, they are angled a bit compared to the walls) I just think that the center channel will look a bit strange on the clean wall which is why I was thinking about hiding it. Maybe I will look into an in-wall option to match the towers. :D :D
