I had to get a new receiver to fit new entertainment unit.I had an old onkyo I think it was a HTR 500. The only receiver I could find that could fit was a Sony STR-DG820.I have a new Samsung ln52a650 and a Samsung 1080p dvd.I still have the speakers that came with the Onkyo. When I watch a dvd the sound is so much better much crisper, but when I watch regular tv it seems like the center speaker just isn't cutting it ( I have turned the center up). I will get HD programming on 08-14 will this fix my sound defecencies? Or do I need to purchase a new Center channel speaker, or should I get some other type of speaker. Right now I have 6 speakers and a sw and wife will not let me put a speaker at the back of the room. And what is a loud speaker? What is a floor speaker? What do I need? Sorry I'm all over the place this is new to me.Lost in L.A. (lower Alabama)

Hey, welcome to the forum!

My suspicion about why you aren't hearing anything from the center channel when you watch TV is that the receiver simply isn't sending any signal to it. A lot of TV shows are in stereo, so your receiver will only play the sound through the front left and front right speakers by default - unless you tell it to do otherwise. Try this: set the receiver to play in a type of surround sound and check if you hear anything from the center channel. I recommend that you try Dolby Pro-Logic as the surround sound choice.
