Hey, I am looking in to buy a center channel speaker for my apartment. Ive narrowed it down to about 2 choices. The Sony SS-CN5000 and the Polk Audio - CSI3. The Sony goes for about $70 , while the Polk sells for $120+.

Here are the links to specs on both
Sony:

Polk:

Is the Polk worth the extra money?

Your center should be the same make and model as your L&R if not all your speakers. What speakers do you have?

Then you would need a CV center if they make one.
They list two on their website. Neither is a VS, but one is a VE which may be the closest equivalent in production. Of course, a VS bookshelf would do as well (or better) if you can find one.

You're getting great advice. You can't just throw any brand of center at your system and expect it to sound right. What you really want is the closest possible acoustic match. And that will be whatever the makers of your main speakers recommends. It will be the same brand and line. Email them.

Not that off axis response is really a huge deal since you have two main speakers that should be handling anything that is off axis with multichannel playback...but a bookshelf should work fine. A bookshelf can image very differently than a center speaker and placement is often a problem as well due to size/shape.

No it’s the other way around the fronts if best should be the same for LCR no if no but the same. But this depends on you’re budget the size of the room. If you can easily accommodate large high quality bookshelf types or the real Mc Coy single 15” bass mid and smaller HF horns then do so.

I know, it has been discussed plenty. I just don't feel it is as big of a deal as it might seem, though it entirely depends on the speaker in question.

Ahhh, I see. Perhaps not a major deal, and seating position(s) will have an effect too, as to whether or not the effect is noticeable.

I never have any idea what you are talking about.

Boys, boys, let's try to be civilized here!:D
(GG is right, though. You do need to work on composing coherent paragraphs. Your meaning is in there somewhere, but it is often obscure.)
