Center channel 'popping'.

Hi All, I would appreciate very much if some could help me out with an issue i have been dealing with for some time, here it is.

I own a Teac AG-H550 Reference Series A/V Receiver that when i bought it had a blown center channel, i took it in to be repaired and they replaced a part as big as my finger nail (i think it was a capacitor) which brought the channel back to life.

However regardless of what speaker i use for the center channel i get a random popping sound on certain frequencies, i would estimate below 80hz, although it is hard to tell exactly. It sounds similar to what a very small small speaker would sound like if the cone was ripped and being fed to much power, or if you accidently knock the arm of a record player, kind of a scratchy pop).

It is apparent mostly when playing music in Pro-Logic and Dolby Digital 3 channel stereo modes, regardless of settings such as Sub on/off, Speakers small/large, Delay, Impedance selector setting 4/8 ohms.

Just for your information here's the rest of the specs on the system.

Cable: 12G Monster Cable
Front: Epos Els3's
Center: Energy Connoisseur CC-1
Rear: Mirage AVS-200

Thanks

I would take it back to the place that did the initial repair. Is it still under warranty?

I'm afraid not.
Well, if you like me and not enthused about opening up a receiver on your own and trying to troubleshoot it, I'd take it back and see if they can fix it again or start looking for a new receiver.

How long ago was it initially repaired? I'd see if you can't get them to fix it on their dime.

That's not a fault you will fix yourself. The fault sounds like a cap discharging internally still. There may have been a reason that cap failed and the tech did not trace things back to the origin of the trouble. Unfortunately electronic fault finding is so ofthen a question of the chicken and the proverbial egg.

Thanks Guys,

I will see if i can get them to look at this issue again (i'm not that savy with circuit boards etc.) as i believe you are right in saying they probably did not trace the original issue to the roots, last time it was $80.00, it would be nice if i don't have to dig into my pockets for this one, and i really don't want to replace this unique little receiver which is custom fitted to my furniture!

Let me know if you are interesting in getting rid of the AG-H550. I have been interested in this particular model for some time.:)

Edit: Never mind, I read one of your posts and now understand why you wish to repair it. Other than the popping, what can you say about the build quality and other overall impressions of this model?
