I just installed a new plasma T.V. above a nonworking fireplace, the problem being there is no place above or below the T.V. for the center channel speaker. I have Niles in-wall and in-ceiling speakers and was wondering whether to install the center channel on one side, a directed sound speaker in the ceiling or possibly putting a speaker on both sides if there is some way of splitting the center channel signal ? thanks for any help

Is that the best place for the TV? How high is it? If it is high, your neck will be sore after a while of viewing ;)

Now, about the speakers. One side will be a terrible idea. The dialog sound will be coming from one side, not a good thing. Similar in a ceiling installation. You will definitely know that the sound is coming from the ceiling.

In this case, I would opt for a speaker on each side but you should try it out first before making an instal in the wall, if that is what you are contemplating doing. You could wire the speakers in seiries or parallel, if the resulting impedance can be handled by the receiver.

Is mounting a center channel speaker in the fireplace an option?

Possible suggestions including building a speaker housing, or changing to a self contained center channel speaker, with the housed speaker mounted in the fireplace.

Yes, it is an option as it appears you don't have good choices.

Hi
Or if your front left and right speakers image very well you can try a phantom center. Placing the center anywhere other than the center is a bad idea
Speakers that have excellent imaging can create a phantom center and it would be hard to tell even if you had a center if it was on or not when switching to phantom or active center.
