Center Channel Placement on Floor

I was wondering if placing my center channel on the floor on a stand that is only 6 inches off the ground, but can be angled up to aim towards the sitting area would adversely affect the audio quality. I am buying a new pedestal mounted DLP TV and have no shelves to place the speaker above or below the set. My speaker is rather large 9"Hx9"DX26"W and ~30lbs.

The speaker stand in question the "Lovan Millennium 2 Series Adjustable Center Channel Speaker Stand" can be viewed here

The center currently sits just below my old CRT TV and movies (voices) sound amazingly clear with my 7.1 system. I am hoping to not have to sacrifice audio quality for the new video quality.

If anyone who is knowledgeable about such things and would care to comment I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

I don't know where, but you can get taller stands like that, so its alomst eye level. I'm sure someone else will know, but I have seen them before, they are popular with projectors.

Sheep thanks for your quick reply. I have seen other stands that can raise the center channels higher but they will look bad with the pedestal TV. The lovan stand in question would look very good as both have a glass base and are silver. My question is will this particular stand adverslely affect my audio quality.

Depending on your floor, you will some effect on output since it a little closer the the floor than normal, somethimes it improves the bass level a little, but it also sometimes brightens up the speaker as well, wood or carpet?

Which pedastal tv?

Just so you know, as an alternative (I'm having to look into this) you could also go for a floating shelf above the TV. There would be less risk of tripping over it or knocking into it, you can wire it inside the wall (unless you live in an apartment), and it would cost about 1/3 of the price. One example is at Pottery Barn for $55 for a 2' shelf up to $75 for a 4' shelf.

I've also seen them at framing shops, target, etc.

I'm getting the samsung hlp5085. I thought about the floating shelf, but my current arrangement places the tv in the corner; second I'm not sure if I can bring myself to place a 30lb speaker right above a new 2500$ tv without fear of it falling on the TV.

Heh. True. Although if you anchor it well, there shouldn't be any worries. The corner would cause a problem.

Its a really nice TV, btw...if you don't see the rainbow effect, you'll enjoy it.
