Center channel for L, C, & R.

Has anyone here used the same center for the left, center, and right channels. If so how did it turn out?

Using LCR type speakers or 3 matching fronts is the best method for a cohesive front soundstage. Some manufacturers offer a slightly different configuration for the center than the L/R only for orientation purpose.

I use 5 identical speakers all around. Works great.

Yup I have, three Paradigm Studio 20s up front. It works very, very well for me.

The only fly in the ointment is if you're using a CRT and the speaker isn't magnatically shielded.

I wont be able to match 5, because I have my 4 surrounds on the wall and ceiling, and the Beta C360 is huge, but is it ok to use 3 centers speakers as the LCR. I see everybody else has 3-5 bookshelf speakers then uses one as the center.

If you plan to use the centers in a horizontal orientation, it's not ideal.

I have 3 Aperion Audio 422c Centers as my L/C/R, with Boston 465 in-ceiling speakers as the rear surrounds in my 7.1 system. For home theater, they sound fantastic. for 2.1 channel music, they sound very detailed. In my office (which is an acoustically treated audio edit suite), they sound amazing. At home, with a hard wood floor and no rug, plus windows, they're a tad sibilant.

As far a cohesion, they have a unified sound. Bonus points for build quality and customer service. These are not much bigger than some of the larger satellite speakers out there, but look REALLY good and not plasticky.

I used 3 x-cs across the front in my system. Loved it, only switched when I got my Ferrari red x-ls.

Horizontally. I can not hear a difference between vertically or horizontally be it off axis or not. That being said, I have only listened to a horizontal center in my system.
