I am remodeling my basement and i know my surround and rear speakers will be either ceiling or in walls. Ceiling ones would be easier to place due to the configiguration and seating positions of the room. Am i loosing a noticeable amount of sound? I know i would be better off with the rears behind me and the surrounds to the side but i dont know if i can do that. any feedback is welcome especially those with ceiling speakers . BTW my fronts will be free standing. Oh and how about suggestions on brands to go with. budget maybe $200-$300 per speaker.

While in-walls would be preferable, in-ceilings can work just as well. With that budget you can look for aimable speakers that help. There are also some bi/di-pole in-ceilings, but I’m not sure which manufacturers offhand. Most of the quality speaker manufacturers offer product lines for these installations. More than likely, whichever brand your considering for fronts also offers in-wall/ceilings.
