Ceiling Speaker installation/replacement

Hi, I am new to the forum and still in the early learning of home audio even though I am in my 13th year of owning a home theater set up.

I have a small to medium sized living room that the previous owner (unfortunately) installed six recessed can lights. It was extremely bright for the size of the room so I took the bulbs out of the two middle lights and now just have four corners of light, which lights the room very efficiently. I had been toying with the idea of replacing the middle lights with Atmos speakers for a bit now and have tried scouring the ENTIREnet looking for a how-to or of any article that would correlate to my search but I keep coming up empty handed.

So, here I am, requesting some knowledgeable advice from anyone that can offer it regarding to install ceiling speakers into old recessed can lighting location. Whether it be positive, negative, or the route I should or should not go, I would very much appreciate the advice.

Thanks in advance!

You would need to fully remove the ceiling can fixture from the space, run speaker wiring to those locations from your Atmos enabled surround receiver and remove the 120v from those locations. If your TV is in the corner, instead of the center of the room, you will also be putting the speakers in the wrong location.

I'm a big fan of having a lot of lighting in a room, so I would leave the lights in place and just put a dimmer in so that the lights could be lowered to a level that makes you happy and if I wanted to add speakers, I would ensure they are in the proper location for where the TV is in relation to the viewers. Generally, when I see TVs in corners, I end up seeing pretty poorly setup surround systems. Speakers are rarely properly located.

Put the lights back, put a dimmer in, don't install more speakers into the wrong location.

If I read the pic right. It looks like you want to have one Top speaker behind you, and one in front of you. Am I seeing that correctly?
If so, don’t proceed further. That layout will not work at all. Maybe a more accurate diagram would help.
