This year CEDIA moves back to Atlanta, GA. 9/8-13/09. CEDIA is the serious advanced a/v technology annual event. Here's the link to the CEDIA EXPO home page so everyone can check out this awesome a/v event.

Let's discuss the CEDIA. Tell me the following:

What products or product categories would you be most interested in seeing?

Anyone interested in CEDIA classes or other manufacturers training interests?

Are there any social events or Atlanta touristy things you'd like to do?

I have arranged a VIP tour. I will take everyone around the show for a meeting behind the scenes of the hottest exhibitors where I've pre-arrange private meetings with key management from the top companies. So make plans now to attend and register immediately so you get the lowest exhibits only cost.

Exhibits open 9/10 and close on Sunday, 9/13. Our VIP tour will be on Saturday, 9/12 starting at 10 AM.

To register for the VIP CEDIA tour send me an email.

Funny, I thought CEDIA was an industry organization, and some aspects weren't open to consumers. Hmmm.

CEDIA is for industry professionals. Many video-audiophiles attend. Also many part time or prosumers who have an interest in getting into this industry attend to check out the opportunity and learn more about the technologies and products.

I'm a member- I know consumers go there to see all of the goodies (and some baddies) but my question has to do with people just going and taking a technical course that helps them bypass people who make their living at this just because they don't want to pay someone to do the work.

FYI- I took some courses that seemed like they would be good for a field installer (audio calibration and video calibration) and OMG!!!!!!!!!! The video cal was painfully boring, 3 hours long without a break and the guy was a snoozer. The audio cal course was basically a forum for the instructor to tell us how cool he and his company were. Some of his advice was incredibly useless and impractical, too.

The point is, call and get details about any courses of interest- the descriptions aren't always totally accurate.

I'd beeline right to the PJ setups myself. :)

Anyone interested in CEDIA classes or other manufacturers training interests?
I won't/can't make because it's too far. But, if I could, I'd be extremely interested in calibration courses, primarily for video first, and audio second.

It's still baseball season then, so that's an idea.

I can understand how you might feel as a pro, but at least in my case, there isn't anyone losing out potentially. With a PJ requiring a new re-cal every 200 hours, I simply just cannot pay someone $400 each time. Hey, even the basics that you take for granted would be new to me. Last time I put on the Spears/Munsil I was pleasantly, and very confused. If my display instead a plasma, I would happily pay for a pro cal.

Thanks for the word of warning and tip.

Were I to go, I would be interested in the new pjs most of all. Maybe some speakers. As for classes, HT setup (video, audio and room treatments and layouts) would intrest me.
What is the size limit of your tour group?

If you want IFC calibration training, do that but the guy who did the video cal course was doing it for bench technicians, not people out in the field.

Projector technologies are expected to be leap-frogging again with Epson, JVC, Sony and Panasonic coming up with a few nice advancements. We might begin seeing LED back-lit LCD and even some 4k resolution fpjs will begin to show up in prototype.

CEDIA is just 5 weeks away and we'll soon find out if the leap-frog is a bull frog or just another toad.

Our VIP tour is scheduled for Friday at 11 AM. Anyone have any companies they want us see?

Just wanted to give you a little heads-up on what to expect at CEDIA's EXPO.

First is Atlanta itself, you will love this city and all it offers. Atlanta is one of my top five favorite cities in America. Enough said, you can do your own evaluation of what to expect in Atlanta by reading this CEPro article.

Visiting the exhibitors and their professional staff is the main reason I look forward to CEDIA. This is the high-end video-audiophile's dream come true. To see all of the finest a/v manufacturers showing off their best new high-end products is simply awesome. I had my favorite audio experience just two years ago on the final day at closing time. In the rush to exit the EXPO while passing the Macintosh exhibit and the president turned up the volume to reference level and I took the sweet seat in their VIP seats. Natalie King Cole sounded better than when I saw her in person at the Blue Note in NYC. It actually was one of the most beautiful experiences that will live with me forever.

You will be treated to getting demonstrations of all of the bleeding edge advanced a/v technologies and products emerging into our beloved passion.

Of course, CEDIA is known for their professional a/v educational certification program and I always take classes on specialties that interest me.

And then there is meeting all of my supplier friends, colleagues and the many high end advanced video-audiophiles that I enjoy time with at the PAAARTIES!

Seriously interested parties can email me if you need help registering for CEDIA.

Looking forward to seeing you in Atlanta for a truly great time.

-Robert
