Hi. Just wondering what my best option for a cd 5 disc cd changer is? I am willing to spend 300 on the changer.

I currently listen to my cds though my dvd player using the digital coaxial. Will the cd player make a difference on sound quality as opposed to the dvd player?

I cannot hear any difference from my NAD DVD player and the Sony changer/recorder using analog connections. Using digital connections I don't think there would be any difference at all.
It would probably take 1,500 and a separate transport and DAC to reveal even subtle differences.

If that DVD player is a single disc player and don't mind swapping discs so much, no need to add a CD player, none.

Cost does not determine audibility. Measurable parameters do. A dedicated $1500 DAC has no inherant measurable advantage that would lead one to believe(based on credible perceptual research) it sounds any different than a $80 CD player's analog outputs.

I went through this about 2 years ago. I ended up getting a $150 Sony DVD 5-disc changer. I like having a resume feature so my CDs pick up where they left off, and it also plays MP3s. It has an optical out. And of course, it's a damn fine DVD player. Also, as I understand it, the audio specs are out of this world -- the line out specs are 115 db s/n ratio, 2 hz to 20 khz +-.5 db, harmonic distortion .003% (which as WmAX says doesn't make any difference as to sound quality compared to most other CD players, but from a hobbyist point of view the specs are pretty spectacular).:)

I would look for a used Sony ES.

I just purchased a yamaha cdc-585 because its one of the quieter changers i've ever heard. I use its analog outs and it sounds great. If you're using the digital out, then the sound wont change from whatever you're currently using. At $150, i think the 585 is a steal.

If you need a variable output for headphones and a few other options, go with the cdc-685 for $200

I recently ordered (end of December) a Sony 5 disc Carousel because I wanted the multidisc shuffle feature. The on January 10, tired of waiting for shipment, I switched to the Sony 5 disc DVD player and received it a few days later.

Found out (the hard way) that the DVD player will not do multidisc shuffle (only with current disc). However, and the multidisc resume feature is very interesting for Concerts on DVD's. And the 5 disc changer is nice to vary the songs and signers on CD's (but you must be in the same room to do this).
