Cat's Lair (in progress)

Just uploaded these pics after cleaning the room up a bit. Things still out of place, out of sight behind my first row seating is a whole stack of manuals, cords, and equipment but I just wanted to get my work in progress setup out there.

Three pics include a shot of my XV-Z12000 and my reclining couch, loveseat, and recliner. The couch in the back is on a carpetted platform I had the builders of my house put it for me. :)

Another pic includes my paltry, but growing, DVD collection .. up over 600 now and have more in my wife's car and the kid's game room .. I dont have my LDs (or my LD player in my media room .. LDs stowed in my study and my LD player is what I use to drive my whole-house sound.

Front of the room shows my brand spanking new Firehawk screen along with my 2 1044s, which have a passive 10 inch sub on each, along with my powered sub along with the components i currently have in the room .. which incude my Yamaha 5590, my DVD player, STB, monster power center, xbox, and D-VHS player.

I currently have those under the screen but have just acquired some new speaker wires so that i can wire my speakers, which are outted to the front of the room, to the side of the room - moving my little console to the side and will have a built in either apron or DVD rack to cover the wiring and outlets underneath and about the screen. I am also debating some kind of DVD cabinetry, like Doug's on the side where i currently have my DVD racks.

Aside from the built-ins, im still needing a Yamaha RX-V4600, a couple of 400 disc DVD-changers (with DVI outs), a PS3, the x360, and a couple of DVI/HDMI splitters.

A lot of work still to do, but I am pretty proud of it. I hope you guys like it. Components still need some work, but I am very happy with my picture quality.

Oh yeah, I also had the builders of my home customize my crown molding in the room. I have rope lighting running on the inside of the crown, which I had them put about a foot from the top of the room. It, along with the step lighting i have on my platform, are both controlled with my X-10 dimmers. You can probably vaguely make out the lighting above the crown. Looks very cool when I play a movie. :)

I still need to program my marantz remote with all of my remotes, and my lighting, but I am working on it. :)

Quit Posting Your Pictures, You'll end up giving everybody upgraditis

Nice Place.

Comment: Are those adult dvd's along the bottom row of the left shelf?

Comment: neiner neiner neiner he's got a monster power conditioner

actually, I've got one too.

Question: What kind of speaker is that tall copper/gold/brass colored thing on the right side of the first picture. I've never seem one like that. Ambient inverted walsh cone?

Nice looking setup. What kind of screen is that? If you need any advice on the DVD shelves, let me know.

Mudcat, no not adult DVDs. I have around 60 Dragonball Z DVDs. My eldest child used to watch that show on Cartoon Network, and for some reason I got hooked on it with her a couple of years ago, have had the set almost completed for some time, probably need to finish it off.

And thats not a speaker, its a light fixture with a little cloth and a fan on top that emulates a blowing flame. Not exactly sure where im gonna put that, kinda just ended up in front while i picked the room up.

Doug, I definitely am going to need some advice. Im wanting to do something up front, either an apron, black or matching blue to the wall, or a DVD cabinet. and also along to the side, similar to yours. Im actually thinking maybe even a cabinet for my components along side my DVDs, off to the side.

Im gonna get one of the carpenters that does the work on the new homes in my area to come in and quote me, ill show him your pics as a starter than ill bounce some stuff off you of what he talks to me about.

Oh yeah, thats my firehawk screen. :) Brand spanking new. :) You can actually make out the stewart emblem on the bottom right, it also has a firehawk emblem on the bottom left that you cant make out from that pic.

Thanks guys. Yes, movie nights are often and a lot of fun, and the beauty of the room is that its COMPLETELY blacked out, even in the middle of a hot and sunny Texas summer day.

The center speaker is actually right next to the console .. it was about an inch short of the console so i added one of my old cabinets shelves in there to almost make it flush with the top of the console. Im going to have to buy a speaker stand of sorts, unless I do something with my built in, to move that speaker up and horizontal, right underneath the screen.

I think it actually looks nicer and cleaner than how it appears in those pictures, the room is usually very dark to dark, like a movie theater, and looks much wider than those pictures present.

I even have a small laptop desk in there, to the side, and in front of, my recliner that I usually do my work from home on. My wife has taken over my study for her things, since Im never in there.

She thinks the pictures look not so good, too, so when im finished with the cabinetry and wiring, and have moved out all of my spares, ill get her to take a few pictures for me.

Ill take a couple of pictures of the amazing looks the projector and screen give off too, specially of dark scenes .. ill post them if they come out lookin great.

Very nice!!!!!!
I really like the crown molding with the rope lights.
This is a tad more beyond my already stretched budget. My friend has them to. And he keeps telling me ideas/ actually filling my head with ideas on how to spend more money. And in this so called hobby, its very easy to spend money. WAY TO EASYYYYYYY....

But you've seen my posts, so this I will not do in my temp HT room. But may go this route when the new house is built...

Once again, VERY NICE! :)

Which Marantz remote, I am assuming either the RC5000 or the RC9500.

I'm sure they are like the Prontos. Very easy to program. I had a cheaper (budget) TSU500, but decided to go to the TSU3000. They are very easy to program.. And almost a hobby in itself.

Future I will go with a TSU7000, when the prices fall a little more. Just waiting for new model to come out, so the price will drop...

Thanks :). Yeah, the lighting out of the crown is pretty cool looking, specially with the x-10 lighting, but definitely not necessary. Much more important, I think, to worry about projector and screen first .. then speakers and components then all the frills.

I think its much more important to have the best looking picture possible. :)

I have the RC9500, which is like the TSU7000NG, I believe.

They are very similar to their pronto counterparts, but it lacks one feature that I really like about the prontos, the database. Thankfully, www.remotecentral.com is there. They do have a lot of information, skins, and files which make the learning process on the remote more fun.

I also went ahead and "splurged" on the "pronto wizard" a pretty good guide that I definitely recommend if you are going down the pronto route.

My remote isnt fully functional for everything I want it to do, yet .. and I need to work on it somemore, but I do have it looking very nice and working my components enough.

I havent spent as much time working on it lately, as I would like.

I'm kinda of a computer geek. So I did not feel I needed the manual. Thought about it, but after about 20 minutes of programing it, I found it super easy. Kind of like a expensive childs toy. And now have spent about 5+ hours with it. But I constantly change it. I did find that you should make one page just for learning. I put buttons #'ed 1-21. Because sometimes I find that learning takes 1-5 times. So this is just for problem codes. Then I transfer the hex code to wherever I want it.

Yeah great place, but I find alot of the complete setup files from the users to be a bit gaudy. I'm good with Photoshop, Photowise, Paint Shop and PhotoImpact. And started to design some buttons, but I get lazy about it and never seem to finish them. There was a Bat page (Batman logo) that someone designed. I do have that in the remote. Head of bat is play button, tail is stop, wings are FF & Rewind. So I've been thinking of how else I can incorparate other logos that could be used as functions. And not just a logo...

Here is what I'm talking about on the Batpage. Granted my remote is only a TSU3000, and not color.

The next DVD you buy should be Envy, then you'll know how we all feel. Sure makes it easy when the house is being built as opposed to retrofitting.

Ever try out Harmony remotes? My cat could program one and their database is second to none.

Hey Spiffyfast, if this is what you want, then when you're done college DON'T let your girlfriend move in or she'll be wearing your dream theatre on her finger...no joke.

LOL. :) Actually, I have this one. I thought it was a average movie. A bit corny, but thats what its supposed to be.
No, on the Harmony for me. I have tried others, but as of now IMO nothing compares to the Pronto...
Sorry for hijacking the thread Catdaddy....

Dont worry about that, I love to talk about any "toys" .. the one skin that Im using is the "mission impossible" one with the finger scan. I got the wizard package that had the much longer life battery, which is great cause I can leave my remote off the charger for days and not worry about it dying on me, :)

Ill post a pic of my remote setup later. That 3000 is a nice remote, too. Do you have that batman thing in color?

Yeah Audiosose, definitely easier. I had them wire sound throughout my house, too. I havea central sound system with RBH speakers throughout my house, including a 5.1 setup in our downstairs family room and the two rear surrounds behind my bed for when I want to do a 5.1 setup in my bedroom.

I also have the house cat-5 and cable wired in just about every room with a centralized "on-q"-type, not the on-q brand, box and a cable signal enhancer making sure i have enough juice to do road runner and HD digital throughout. :)

No but I could make it color. Actually friend has a TSU6000. So I downloaded that program and fixed a lot of his logos. Mainly cleaned them up a bit and gave a buttonized look to some.

Also have the program for the TSU7000, and have played around with it as well.

If you would like the Batman in color, What color would you like???
