Cat5 cabling for analog videa and rca connections

I am relocating all of my equipment to my basement and running a dedicated circuit for power.

I am looking for some sound advice on the positive/negatives of running cat5 for rca and analog video. Or I may just wire for digital video as I will be there soon and I have two boxes of RG6

I beleive the distance restriction is 40feet which is OK for my first floor.
I came across the cat5 connectors and was curious how they work.....
When I go to the second floor I will be running RG6 most likely.
Thanks in advance for any help!

What type of analogue video signal?

Cat5 is not shielded it's twisted pair to help reject noise since it usually carries digital signals a little noise isn't an issue. RCA terminated wires are usually shielded. The RG6 works fine here.

Cat5 can be used for all kinds of signals with the use of a balun. Here is an example. I have used baluns to run vga signals over long distances where a vga cable was impractical.

Basically, I would say no, the Cat5 is not well suited.

Wait for some more answers because someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I know that I can purchase cat5 STP (sheilded) does that change anything.
The video will probably be s-video connections

If you're putting the wire in walls or the floor or whatever, run conduit so you can easily upgrade to component/hdmi/whatever in the future!

Cat5 for HD?

Can I use Cat5 for an HD signal to my projector? My electrician ran RG6, Cat5, and I think an optical cable. Any suggestions on the best way to connect my HD TV signal and DVD player? Thanks.

Going back to the cat5. I've used cat5 for many things including RCA's you just use one pair for your shield. It's up to you on weather you want to spend the money on a box of cat5 or save some money and go to monoprice.com.

I decide against the twisted pair cat5, I already have plenty of it and plenty of rg6 coax. I went with the rg6 and use rg6 compression connection for the r-g-b video connections.
I also ran one for my sub but when I hook it up I ge tloud hummm, I am guessing that I have a ground issue and will have to redo the connections for that.
Other than that all worked well. I have all the equipment moved into my av cabinet downstairs and just have some dress up stuff to do...
Thanks for the input
