Casino Royale - James Bond

Anybody else make it out to opening night for Casino Royal? I thought it was great, and I'm not a huge James Bond fan, just moderate. :D Without giving anything away, there were plenty of twists and such a great car! The new Aston Martin DBS (street version, DBRS9) with hand stitched leather interior, V12, 500HP and beautiful. If I could spend $250K or so on a car (or anything), that Aston Martin would be at the top of the list. Sharp. I liked Daniel Craig as the new Bond too. I thought he made the Bond more real, yet still above and beyond kickass.

There was a big bruhaha over the new 007 the big time fans didn't like the guy so they were going to try and boycott the movie. I was raised on 007, but I don't consider my self a dyed in the wool fan. I might wait for the DVD.....Oh! Noooo! Blu-ray or Hd-DVD:eek:

Went yesterday.

The movie was GREAT! I went to the 4:45 show so the theater was only half full. It is definitely different than all the rest of the Bond series. I don't wan to give any spoilers but don't go in expecting the exact same type of events like previous Bond movies.

I haven't seen it yet. I heard one commentator say that it was the best Bond film to date.

Would you agree? A better Bond than Sir Sean?! Can it be?!

I can't say better or worse than Sean Connery, but I really like Daniel Craig's character, this Bond is one we can relate to more, yeah he shows emotions, makes a few mistakes... learns from that. He had more personality in this one vs. just a smooth character who we don't really get to know, just enjoy watching.

Do you think maybe it's just a case of Casino Royal's being a remake, i.e. that the story is simply better than most recent Bond films, that makes this one seemingly so good?

Mr. Buckle-Meister:

Can there ever be another BOOOOND besides Sir Connery? Me thinks NOT!

No, in my opinion there is no better Bond than Sean Connery.
I would say this is the best 007 film since he has left the series. Totally different type of story, too.

It would be nice to see some more 007 films with Daniel Craig, but how many more Ian Flemming novels are there?

Major,

From what I've read over time, the philosophy is: as long as the franchise produces mucho dinero they'll make up stories along the way trying to stay with the success formula.

I haven't seen it yet. After watching Layer Cake, I thought that Daniel Craig would make a good Bond. I stopped watching 007 movies a long time ago. They just got too stupid, cheesey, and cliche. I'm glad some life is being breathed back into the franchise. I'll probably wait til it comes out on dvd, though to see it.

Hi, Zil,

I don't care for going to movie opening nights. The theaters are usually too crowded. Plus, since I upgraded our HT system from 2.0 to 2.1 and then to 5.1, a movie theater loses a lot of its charisma. Plus, we can pause a DVD any time and go to the bathroom or get a drink.

I must say that my gf likes the idea of still going to a movie theater, but my idea is that it's like a novel: How many are worth buying? Though I'm a full-time writer and freelance editor now--long story--there are few novels that deserve to be bought at hard-cover prices. Paperbacks? No problem. But that's my idea about most movies, too. Few are worth going to a theater to see, but many are worth a $3 rental fee.

Bond? I haven't seen the latest, so I can only say that so far my fave is Connery. Moore? He was far too prissy. Brosnan? He was OK, though I don't like him in general. The other miscellaneous Bonds? Forgettable! I admit that the latest has gotten some good reviews, so I'm looking forward to renting the DVD.

A new Bond quote I read in a newspaper (I don't have the source, so this is a paraphrase):

Question to Bond: "Would you like your martini shaken or stirred?"

New Bond's answer: "Do I look as if I give a give damn?"

I like that. :D

Yes, that was a line in the movie. It was during a low point in the movie for 007. Bond didn't order a shaken martini the whole movie. He orders "something" different, though.

I am a huge bond fan and this bond film is a nothing but a piece of political correct pos from a womans point of view, I detest this actor and the re-imagining of bond in this film. I will NEVER see this bond film with this actor or this type of bond. I would rather see Micheal J Fox or Pee Wee herman as bond than this ugly pock marked idiot. This bond is an insult to bond fans and all things bond. Bond died after Golden Eye, may he rest in piece.:(

Come on Jeff tell us what you really think of this Bond!;) I posted briefly before that a lot of the serious fans were pissed off this guy is doing the role, and I agree with you about 007 becoming politically correct it happened though a few movies ago with M being played by a woman. Let's face it BOND was and always will be politically incorrect, to castrate him like they have is indicative of the mindset that exists today, we don't have heroes anymore everything is gender neutral, we've lost our cojones and Bond has become a mirror of our times. I wonder what Flemming thinks about this. I always turn to Sean Connery when I want to see the REAL James Bond.....he played a man's man, not what we have today.

This guy won't be the last Bond, don't worry, hey at least this movie was way better than License to Kill with Timothy Dalton!!! Expound on your thoughts for us Jeff cause I didn't get that feel from the movie. What makes it PC and from a woman's point of view? You haven't seen it yet right, so how do you know exactly what the movie is like until you watch more of it than the trailer?

:D I can understand not liking a new Bond, my father and I didn't care for Timothy Dalton as Bond in "The Living Daylights", but didn't let it keep us from going to the movie theater to check out "License To Kill" on the big screen when it came out. Daniel Craig is going to be in the next Bond movie too, so hopefully you'll warm up to him, it could be worse Bond could be Pee Wee Herm... oh wait, you said that'd be ok... At least Pee Wee already has a gray suit!!!! but not quite like Connery's...

Again, tell us why you think the movie is from a woman's point of view cause I can't figure that one.

I detest using this new guy as bond, I detest the feminizing they have done of bond, I detest the taking of the girls out of the opening credits, and the list goes on and on. I can not say anymore on this forum on what I hate about this new actor or this bond film, or I would likely get into trouble. I will never watch this actor in a bond or any film for that matter and I will say no more.

Like I said the real fans have been in uproar since this guy came on the scene......the producers are losing touch with the real fan base and that's a shame.
