Bimmers are FAR more expensive to maintain though, and used means no original factory warranty for a 2008. One of the massive drawbacks to them; disappointing because they are good cars. I had an E46. Another drawback would be the terrible resale value for some of the recent models because of how many were sold. My daughter's fiance has a 330ci that was nearly $50K new and currently bluebooks for around $7K... glad I got rid of mine when it was only 2yrs old. At least used, the initial depreciation is already factored in.

Agreed. I have a 06 E53 (V8)that always manages to cost couple of thousand a year, just cant sell for what i want and at 80k miles i wanna pluck it to 99999 . Always lease BMWs with service included. Im lucky Ive got a good indy shop that does good work and dosent parrot BMW on repairs. My favorite model from them was the E39, last of the classic 5 series.

I agree, always lease BMW's, Jaguars, Range Rovers, ect.. I friend of mine just bought an F type-r for $95K, its gorgeous and I am seeing more and more of them, but 100k on a car that if something breaks will cost 100k to fix, lol... kind of insane.. although that car has the meanest sounding stock exhaust system I have ever heard...

Same conclusion I reached. I'm retired, and got the hotrod bug. Have never had one, and think it would be fun. Looked at new & classic Vettes, Challengers, Mustangs, and new hotrod versions of BMW/Audi/MB. Decided the former group gives up too much in comfort & convenience. The latter group costs too much for performance I would likely use ~1% of the time.

you buy what you like, something that interests you, we all like different things. Some like to own a car that they drooled over as a kid, a friend of mine spent $25K on a 1987 monte carlo ss because when he was a kid and got his license that was his dream car, he bought it with 1200 original miles and drives it like it was 1987, lol... I love old muscle cars and custom hot rods so that is what I buy and drive...

You cann ot take the money with you and I never seen anyone really enjoy a bank statement...

But I'm with you. Suspect our solution will be one comfortable car, (leaning toward Audi A6), and one play car. (And of course will always keep a pickup truck. It is required for rednecks.) Now have 2 Maximas... both 10 years old... both w/ ~90k miles... and both running fine. That last part about "running fine" is the problem. It moves any new car into the category of "want" instead of "need". Just like the OP. Tough to convince the boss we should spend $XXK on a new car, much less 2 new cars, when the ones we have are fine. It is a process.

The speed3 is not one of those kinds of cars. Like the srt4, it is a car that was built for kids, was probably owned by kids, and probably got beaten on by kids. That said, a good once over and you should be able to tell whether a car was cared for or not.

Personally, my car makes full use of 700 horsepower every day. lol

MS3 was built for a younger crowd but I NEVER saw any kids driving them around early on because they weren't priced for kids. Now that they're onto the third generation, the original MS3s are in kid's hands. SRT4 was just a hotted up Neon and still handled like one, where at least the MS3 has a capable chassis and is better built.

Now that they're onto the third generation, the original MS3s are in kid's hands. The speed 3 in 08 had an msrp of like 22,000 - right about the same as an srt4, I believe. That is a car that someone can afford on a mcdonalds salary while in high school.

As long as you live with your parents Cost of living is too high around here for kids to do that.

He's about 18, wrecked it badly once already apparently, and lives with his parents and thinks he's hard. He has the most annoying exhaust on it I've ever heard on any car. So yes, it can be done on a McDonalds salary. Most of the ones I see around here are nicely done though. Usually suspension & rims then minor breathing upgrades and usually tasteful.

Yea fuel costs have changed things a bit. The 10mpg combo that I had in high school was annoying then at $1.20/gal and I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it much at $4/gal. Of course, I still get 10mpg, but am in a bit of a different situation.

Not crazy about the nose in pics, but it looks REALLY nice on the street I thought about it when that one came out, but I enjoy the current toy and I don't want a big fat car payment Just sold one and down to just 2 cars and the truck right now... If I pick up another one, it will be for the track.

Funny thing, chevy discoed that color 11 months after intro in favor of slate gray.... this has been modded cosmetically only; wheels, exhaust plate, interior panels, etc. Cant do audio without a complete rip out and custom panel mods.... FU Bose, FU Chevy ...
