Hi everyone, I have an old carlsbro wanderer (battery operated pa system) and the battery has gone flat - I know they don't make it anymore & carlsbro cannot help - anyone know anyone who can repair this? It works fine, has been a great piece of kit and it seems a shame to have to buy a new one just because the battery has gone.....ideas anyone? cheers, Jeremy.(btw Oxford area but will travel)

I think that you need to take a look at the battery and get model number and specs directly from the battery label. Then, you can search online or call a local Batteries+ store to see if they have a suitable replacement.

I can't find much useful information on that rig. They were an outfit from Nottingham that made it. Original market date 2005. They went broke in 2009, and the name was bought. The new company makes a different line, and does not support the old line.

You do not have batteries plus in the UK. I can not find a user manual for your unit. What does your user manual say about battery replacement?

I did find a complete sales catalog for Carlsbro from 2007. Replacement batteries were not in the catalog. This might be a reason they went under. There is usually a significant level of incompetence associated with these events.

Have you taken the old battery out? If not, do so and see if you can find the voltage and amp/hour spec and the recharge rate.

If this is a lead acid battery, you can probably find it. If it is lead acid then it is probably of a type used in UPS units and burglar alarms. If it is NiCad then things will be more difficult, but someone may be able to build you one. Batteries plus in the US offer this service and do a good job.

If the unit has a Lithium battery be careful. If you can not find an exact replacement then junk the unit. Li units have very precise and individual charging protocols which if not strictly adhered to, cause explosion and fires. This is not a might, but will.

One thing you could do is talk to an instrument/PA shop in Oxford that has a service department, and see if they have solved this problem.

I have a hunch you will end up junking this, as you are not the only one searching for an answer to this problem

I do not have any other ideas.

Many thanks - great information - although I am afraid I think you are right in the end about this! Much appreciated.
