Car Subwoofers to Home System?

Hello,

I'm new here, and I'm looking for some help. A few years ago back home, I put a lot of time into making an enclosure and setting up my two MTX 12" Thunder6000 subwoofers and my JBL-600.1 amplifier into my minivan. Since then, my van has died, and I've moved into the middle of the city, where having a car isn't too practical.

Because I'm emotionally bound to these subwoofers, I'd rather not sell them, and I'd rather not have them gather dust back home. So I wanted to bring them here, and hook them up in my apartment. I guess that I have a few options; I've got a very decent computer that I could hook them up to (if possible), or I suppose I could create a stand-alone system for them.

Has anyone ever done this before? I honestly wouldn't even know where to start. I'm guessing I'd need some kind of hefty battery to power the amp, and then a receiver of sorts in order to run the wires. On top of that, there'd have to be some kind of way to wire them to my computer, but I just don't know.

Any ideas? I'd be incredibly grateful for any input.

Thanks!

Why not power them with a home stereo amp instead of the 12V car amp? No need to messa round with the battery and 12V conversion then. You could pick one up on ebay for a good price if you look around a bit.

The enclosure design for home audio is going to be quite a bit bigger if you are going sealed. Car enclosures are designed figuring the woofer will get a great lowend boost because of the confines of the car. If doing a prted enclosure I would suggest a low tuned enclosure. Probably around 25-30hz. If you can send me the specs (Theile Small Parameters) I can get you some specs for two enclosure types (ported or sealed). :)
