I know this is a very HT orientated forum, but i was hoping someone would have their finger on the pulse of the car audio market.

Here in Australia the name on every car audio enthusiast's lips is Rockford Fosgate, and Alpine also well known but appearing to be the underdog.

Specifically I am interested in Boston Acoustics car audio products since although I have not auditioned them myself they provide subjective measurements and technical specifications on their website, as opposed to catchy slogans and paragraphs of marketing hype which are worded in a manner which could be interpreted in a number of ways.

I have not auditioned Rockford or Alpine systems either but what has steered me away from these brands is that their technical specifications are obscure let alone being able to find a frequency response graph.
I have reservations about Rockford as their reputation seems to have been built upon their bloated prices and their reputation of making cans fall off the shelf when a car equiped with their subwoofers pulls into the grocery store carpark.

Any information would be appreciated,
Dan

While RF makes some good products, the direction that company seems to be heading now is "More watts for less price by sacrificing sound quality". I would never buy a RF product.

Alpine makes good HU's (Head units/reciever/CD player/whatever), and from what I hear, their Type R's are good speakers. Their amps are good, but overpriced.

Eclipse makes HU's that a comparable or better than Alpine's. Their subs are good, and their amps are good.

Phoenix Gold makes damn good amps at a damn good price. Dollar for dollar, they can't be beat. Their speakers are also top notch.

Adire Audio makes some sexy speakers. I wouldn't hesitate to run their speakers in my car, or home.

Infinity, the quality you expect from their home euipt. you can expect from their car equipt too.

Polk, their car audio isn't as good as Infinity.

Visit some of these car audio specific forums, and look around and ask question.
