Car Audio Questions

Probably not the best forum to ask this question, but I respect people's opinions on here and I'm looking for some advice.

I'm considering putting a nice audio system in my car and was curious if anybody knew of any good websites for information about that. Specifically I was curious if there was a site that had recommended systems by price range similar to the ones on here for home audio.

Also, any input on ipod compatible head units would be much appreciated if anybody knows anything about those.

I spent some time and money on a car audio system once. It turned out to be a bad investment. Car audio sounds pretty bad. Since you are going to subject yourself to bad sound anyway, I recommend staying with whatever you have. Sorry it isn't an answer to your question.

I have been listening to some rap music lately.....mostly at intersections.

Sure, it can sound bad...but it can also sound pretty amazing. I say that because a buddy of mine had put in a system in his SUV, and I had never heard a mobile system sound that good before. It was fantastic. The music was clean even when very loud, and the bass was deep and clean. Difficult for me to describe, so I'll just say that a car system done right really can make a huge improvement.

Hey if the i-pod integration is your main concern then be sure to take a look at the Alpine IDA-X001 head unit. It is designed exclusively for the i-pod with input from apple. Thus, the unit can be had for around $399. Also, be sure to look at the Pioneer DEH-P5900IB or the Premier DEH-P590IB head units. Both come with the cable you will need to use your i-pod AND the cable also charges the i-pod. Right now the DEH P5900IB cab be had for only $190 at Crutchfield. Keep in mind the Alpine IDA-X001 is designed for the i-pod and does NOT play cds whereas the Pioneer DEH-P5900IB will still play cds/cd-r/cd-rw/mp3/wma. Anyways, this should get you on the right path if i-pod integration is your main concern. Hope this helps. Hava a happy but safe holiday weekend. :):)
