capabilty of receivers and recommendations

i'm new to the forum and would like some opinions if the Onkyo TX-SR607 is a good mid-range receiver to buy as a stand alone, if i'm planning on pairing it with some boston acoustic cs226 speakers, + sub, with further upgrades in surround sound in the future.

does this receiver have appropriate power to handle components such as these? and if there are better recommendations on receivers within a similar price range i'd love to hear them, and why they are better. or should i shell out the money for a much more expensive and ballsier receiver to handle my sound needs for years to come? thanks for your help.

If you are able (financially) then it's always a good thing to buy a receiver that has enough headroom to grow. You're basically saving money now as opposed to making another costly investment later.

I had the very similar TX-SR805 receiver screwed up and couldn't get it fixed. Authorized dealers doesn't accept onkyo warranty work, I don't know why. Get pioneer elite or something. you can get it from ABT they price match as much as possible, just don't get onkyo. Trust me. if it fails, it will fail bad. Just posted starts as "ONKYO declines warranty" (couldnt post links due to the insufficient post count)
