Canyon Audio Series 310 Speakers Reviewed

Canyon Audio is a manufacturer based in Nevada who works with some domestic designers to have custom modifications made to products which are then manufactured overseas to keep costs down. We received a setup consisting of Canyon Audio's 310-TSC 5.0&nbsp;system (a subwoofer is not yet available, but we understand one will be coming out towards the end of the year.) All things considered, if you want nice-looking, inexpensive full-size speakers, your selections are pretty limited. Read on to see what we thought of these speakers for $529.</FONT></SPAN></P>

You might wanna fix the page, the specifications title is for the Logitech Z5500 system that you tested!

Those things look nice. I'm always glad to see new companies with affordable merchandise. Gives me hope that maybe some of the higher end stuff will come down in price because of the competition.

It never does, but I enjoy the false hope. :)

One thing I appreciate about Audioholics is that they review the lower end (price) stuff as well as the mid/high end. Reviews of these speakers will be much more useful to me when friends ask for recommendations. It's easy to recommend a system for someone who understands audio and the inherent costs, it's much more difficult when the person's only experience is with a boom box. I can suggest these speakers to almost anyone without having them go into such sticker shock that it completely shuts down the conversation.

Fits my price range

While these fit my price range, I am wondering about the "grills" as quoted from the article

"The grills, which are comprised of elastic bands that are tensioned across the front of the speakers, are extremely attractive. Unfortunately, they also dramatically influence the sound as they cover nearly 40% of the entire surface area in front of the drivers. Stick your head in front of the speaker and pull aside the bands and you'll hear an immediate difference."

Can these grills be cut and a regular grill be put in its place?

Yep. Specs were right - title was wrong. Thanks for the catch.
Check the frequency response the center and surrounds are not 45hz-20khz

Sounds like a promising company, and that one should wait until their new models arrive. Nice review.

Not wanting to be tooo critical

The emphasis of the review seemed to be centered around build quality, and little information regarding the "sound" of the speakers, except to say that the midrange was muddy etc.

How muddy is muddy?

How uneven of frequency response? Is the sound better than what is produced by the 2" paper cones on my TV?

"treble could be fatiguing over long periods of time" What length of time, what type of source material (music type, movie etc), what volume levels?

IMHO the last section of the review needs a little work.
