First of thanks for the help.

I have a friend that is willing to sell me 2 brand new Canton tower speakers. He gave me the following options.
a. GLE 407 - $800 pair
http://www.canton.de/en-produktdata-gleserie-gle407.htm
b. LE 190 - $800 pair
http://www.canton.de/en-produktdata-archiv-le190.htm
c. LE 170 - $540 pair
http://www.canton.de/en-produktdata-archiv-le170.htm

My questions

1. Is this a good deal???

2. I live in a town house and converted my garage into a theater. The room is 19' by 24'. So I am leaning towards the LE 170.
a. Is the difference between the le 170 and gle 407 worth $260??? I am on tight budget.

3. I am thinking of purchasing a Yamaha RX-V661 receiver.
http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=547398&CTID=5000300&ATRID=1020&DETYP=ATTRIBUTE
a. Is this receiver strong enough for these speakers.

4. In the $600 range (street value) would you suggest a different set of tower speakers?

5. In the $400 range (street value) would you suggest a receiver?

Thanks again for the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It looks OK. You can get basically the same prices with shipping from www.ac4l.com brand new, and possibly a bit lower for b-stock.

Thanks for the info j_garcia, it sounds like he isn't really giving me that great of a deal. I will see what he says after I show him that website. Thanks again!!!

Also what do you think of these speakers.... would you suggest anything else in the $600 range???

I have only heard the LE103s, but I liked them for music. At least one member on here owns the LE series, but he hasn't been around as much lately. Hopefully he will drop in and provide some additional feedback on them.

During my recent 'you know I would really like a tower speaker' search, I listened to the Canton le190 along with a Paradigm monitor 7v5. I found them to be completed opposites. The Paradigm was really forward and bright, while the Canton was very polite sounding. It should be noted that the LE line is the low end in the
Canton lineup. Neither was my cup of tea. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.;)

Can't speak for either the Canton LE or GLE lines. They are the lower end items. I personally own the Ergo line and I love them. The Ergo would be the second from the top. First is the Vento line (don't even ask the price on these). The Karat line is a GREAT line of speakers that receives rave reveiws and is more affordable than the Ergo or Vento lines.

BTW- AC4L is a very reputable company located in Central Florida. Call or e-mail to see if you can get a better deal ;)

Thanks.. I did just that... AC4L sold me a pair of le 170's for $299. There was some minor cosmetic damage from shipping, but they have never been used and the speakers came w/ a 5 year warrenty. Sounded like a good deal to me.. I told AC4L that they should pay you a commision!! LOL!!

Hey, if they'd just give me the Vento towers at cost, I'd call it even :)

I have the Ergo 120, very accurate speakers, sound similar to Yamaha's NS-1000 but not to 100%, few speakers are, if you like accurate sound, you won't go wrong with Canton or MB Quart, both excellent German speakers.
