Hi Steve,
I was wondering if the Canton's could have been driven by the Denon 5803 given their ohm and sensitivity spec.

The Denon should have no problem running the Canton's as it has a great amplification section. If you want a bit extra boost, you can bi-amp the multiroom channel to the front. Whith combined amplifiers, the Denon will definately be more than enough to run these speakers.

This subject was discussed in Gene's review of the Denon where he outlines exactly how to do it. Check out the following link.

Peter;

Using a receivers internal amps with an amp section any less than a flagship product such as those from Denon, B&K, Yamaha, etc is not advised given the low sensitivity and reactive load impedance these speakers present. I would strongly caution potential buyers to mate these speakers with a high quality, low impedance dedicated amplifier. I should be able to put up some impedance plots of those speakers in a few weeks when my equipment returns from calibration.
