Since i can get them at a good price I'm considerig them as an alternative to my option to Monitor Audio Silver speakers.

What do you guys think?

Can they be a match to a Denon or Marantz receiver amplification?

Thanx!

Cantons are among the most accurate speakers out there, they are pricey but their quality is well worth it. The Ergo series is phenomenaly good, I have the Ergo 120 which is around ten years old now and still running fine.

They seem to be very inefficient... 86db... 4...8Ohm... can a Marantz SR5400 handle them? And sonic matching?

Dont let that rating turn you off from these fine speakers, they are quite conservatively rated and I have driven them with tube amps without any problems.

Tube amps?

How many watts?

What efficiency have yours?

I'm interested in the karat range.

I listen to pretty loud music, mainly in DVD concerts...

It was an old Dynaco Stereo 30, for loud music stay off Canton, Yamaha etc. and look towards Axiom, Magnepan which are way more condusive for that purpose.

hmm.

I found the Canton's Karat series to do awesome with really loud music with in the exact room and using the same components with Paradigm, B&W, Mission and Definitive Technology. Canton's blew me away the right receiver. I find myself blaring it for hours without my ears getting tired at all at ridiculous volumes. And I listen to a WIDE variety of music, from Jazz, to Rock, to hip hop, blues etc. Not sure I would match them up with a yammy or the Denon though as they might be a bit bright for the cantons. I would match them up with a warm receiver. Pioneer Elite does well with the cantons. Never heard them with the Marantz so cant comment. I am comparing the Cantons in the exact same room using the same components as the Paradigm's, Mission and B&W. And the Karat M60's blew them all away in pretty much every aspect. The ergo's are really nice as well. I prefer the look of the silver Karats though :). Which speaker exactly are you looking at? What is a good price?

I heard today the Karat s8dc with Marantz cd7300/pm17mkii KI they had in the room.

Loved the sound, 100% my type, great highs and mids, but the bass was not very controlled, I Think the room and placement was far from prefect.

I'm interested in m30dc+m10+cm40 or m60dc+m10+cm40

Oh... the speakers are awesome looking!!! :D

the dealer promissed me a audition with m60dc+s1+cs40 with a Marntz sr5400 or 7400.

You have m60dc with a receiver? wich one?

And I listen to a WIDE variety of music too ;)

The M60 are worth the audition and the xtra $. I run mine with a Pioneer Elite VSX53. After many many auditions and driving my sales guy crazy bringing almost every receiver he had in store home, the pioneer was the right match for the Canton. I did not try the Marantz though as he did not carry them. It may serv you well. For the bass, the M60 do a superb job. Still want to match em up with a sub for HT and some music, but the M60's do great with bass. They are a bit picky with placement and be prepared to be moving them inch by inch as the weeks and months go by. Keeps it interesting. good luck! Which dealer are you buying them from? I have a hard time finding a Canton dealer so I have nowhere to compare prices when shopping for mine.
