im 65 years old, just retired. spent the last month searching for a receiver specific to crisp, pure music with out all the bells and whistles of video controllers and a lot of technology that I have no need for. a receiver that I can set up and use without a remote. {remote fails, no control} I use a 5.1 configuration for my speakers, 100 watts per channel would be nice. wi fi, blue tooth, FM and cd are my go to's for music, room size is 20 by 18 ft. speakers and locations, b&w 603s , left and right front, center, altec lancing model 20. rear, Boston a-60's. channel b, 2 mirage m-290s. sub woofer, Polk psw, 100 watt. Dont laugh, they sound really nice. being powered by a borrowed Sony str db 930. plenty of power, but has issues, the closest ive found is a denon avr s 7 or 900. but would still like more manual control without all the presets... can you help, thanks martin s.

Well, the audio part isn't hard, but the name of the game with avrs is generally bells and whistles. They will have video switching features, and things you won't use. Generally they are generally best setup with a remote and a tv, altho some can still be setup well enough with the front panel buttons/lcd. If you want 2ch only, there are some alternatives that are simpler but can't think of one for multi-ch. Don't know what you mean by presets particularly, only presets on my avrs are generally ones I create. I like the Denon X3300 and up models myself.
