I just received a new samsung PN56D8000 and while I am watching cable I switch over to the Smart hub mode. While I am in the Smart Hub I can see the cable video in the upper left hand corner with sound coming from cable. When I try to play a video from my pc I see the video but the sound is still coming from the cable box. This also happens when I try to play a video from YOU Tube. Where do I go to to change the sound? I am hooked up to port 2 via HDMI cable from my Denon 4311.

On the Denon you need to choose the ARC as your audio source. That stands for 'Audio Return Channel'. You also need to make sure that your Samsung is properly plugged into the ARC HDMI connection which goes back to your Denon receiver.

I've heard, but am not sure, that the Samsung speakers may need to be 'on' for ARC to work properly. This is a bug in their product and not your fault, but should be checked.

You definitely should NOT hear your cable box because that means the Denon is still listening to the cable input, not the ARC input.

Hi,

I can't find the ARC source on the denon. My HDMI is plugged into the sat/cbl port on the denon and in the second port on the Samsung 59D8000. I turned on the sound from the tv and it is still not working.

I noticed that when I was watching a movie the black bars on the top and bottom would flicker from a deep black to gray black from time to time. I did shut of the eco adjust on the tv because Samsung said this causes the problem could it be something else.

I think I foind the Arc source pg 99 of denon manual.

This is how I have it hooked up:

HDMI CONTROL is On
control monitor 1
power off control set to on

speaker set to on, on the samsung hear sound from the cable box. I shut off the speaker setting on the samsung I still hear the cable box sound.

Man, that really sucks. Anynet is garbage and HDMI CEC completely messes up any decent remote control system. You should just have a setting to use ARC in the television as a 'source' and you should have a 'source' button for the Denon that says 'ARC'. This automated stuff is just infuriating when it completely fails to work properly, then can't be overridden to give proper results.

Good luck with it!
