can't get universal remote to work with Denon DRA-825R

Hi all

We recently purchased a new plasma TV and when I mute the sound on the TV, the sound from the Denon DRA-825R receiver doesn't mute. On our old CRT, muting the TV meant no sound was coming out of the TV, to any source, PERIOD! So, to try and work around this problem, I thought I would use the mute control on the receiver. This works just fine... but I have no remote. So, using the Satellite universal remote control, I figured I could solve this problem. I use the Denon code, with the Aux button, and it registers, but none of the controls work. So, I tried the Scan feature of the remote to see if it might do better finding the appropriate code for itself. This scanning method finds itself the code and I save it to the remote. But still, there's no control. Am I doing something wrong? Should I try a different Universal Remote... any suggestions??

Thanks...Julia

It would help if you told us what components you have, but from your descriptions is sounds like you're using a satellite receiver going to your new plasma, then feeding the sound from the plasma to your receiver. In my experience, most remotes that come with TVs and Satellite receivers are pretty poor as universal remotes, giving you the kind of problems you're experiencing. I'd get a Logitech Harmony or Home Theatre Master. They're easy to program (especially the Harmony - they have a great website that walks you through it). Let us know how this turns out.

Geno... you have my set up dead on. I will take your advice and look into getting a Harmony.

Thanks a bunch.
