I want a powerful subwoofer for watching movies. The Polk Tsi 400 floor standing speakers will take care of the music. So i need help on picking a subwoofer that will shake god's throne for under 400 bucks. You can give me other recommendations of other subwoofer brands.

There does not exist a subwoofer that will shake anyone's throne for $400. You're looking at just below what is generally considered decent entry level at that price.

It's sort of an awkward price. You're about $100 or so short of a good low-end sub like an FV12. It will get you into a VTF-1 or STF-2 though.

What is your room like?

He can get a nice little sub for $400 shipped, but he would need just a bit more than $500 for a higher performing sub because of shipping. If he looks and waits patiently for a used bargain though, he can get a killer sub like a Hsu or SVS 12" for 500 total. Just keep an eye on Audiogon and ebay and something affordable will pop up.

+1. Can you up the budget $100? It will be worth it. If not, maybe get two BIC F12's or one of the Klipsch RW-12D (promotion for the $200 off ends today).

Agreed, not much is going to truly rumble the place, but the Cadence CSX-12 Mk2 is $400 shipped and does a pretty darn good job of filling even a decent sized room for that price. I have a pretty large room and it did surprisingly well.

How big is your room? That's going to be a big factor.

Yup, the opinion is unanimous it seems. $400 is not going to shake anyone's "throne", unless you place the sub in your bathroom and get the toilet lid rattling... :p

As the others have mentioned, adding $100-$150 would make a world of difference. But it does greatly depend upon the size of room too.
