This was proposed in the US earlier this year also.

They should be regulated to have no more than the average volume of the TV shows. In the past, they have been regulated to have no more than the maximum volume of the TV shows.

It is more than a proposal now. It is the law and effective 1 Jan 2012. Way over due.

I just don't understand why they need any component for this. Where is the commercial introduced in the programs? Why is it any different than the program itself? It meets a certain standard of loudness and whoever does the audio in commercials need to do the same.

I wonder how many people have had late night heart attacks after falling asleep on the couch and being woken with the oxy clean or the wily eyebrowed juicer guy going off at 130 dB. Please god make this apply to infomercials too!

Never mind being woken up from a sleep. More than once, I've sat at the kitchen table eating dinner while watching the news and got a startle when one of those LOUD advertisements suddenly came on.

I have a PVR and watch nothing live and almost never watch commercials. The odd time when I don't hit FF quickly enough, the volume of some commercials is definately is noticeable.

And yes...I've dozed off and been woken by the Oxyclean man

I measure the loudness of commercials and they are about 6dB to 10 dB louder:eek:
