Can Zone2 output froma digitial input on Yamaha RX series?

I just setup Zone2 on a Yamaha RXV757. It would only play the tuner, not the TV nor the DVD / CD changes. I was using the Optical Digital cable connection for both the TV and DVD.

I connected the regular RCA audio outputs from those two devices to the RCA inputs on the Receiver. This solved the problem. I was just suprised.

Is there another workaround? Did I miss something in the setup to output those signals to Zone 2?

Multi zone output is Analog only

In order to utilize the multi-zone features on the Yamaha RX-V1500 and I suspect your model is the same, the input source must be analog. Since the multi-zone outputs are analog connections, and these A/V amps do NOT convert digital inputs to analog outputs, you must use the RCA analog connections as input when you want to have sound in the other zones.

That being said, you should still leave the digital connections as they will provide superior sound when you are not sending sound to the other zones.

or hookup both??

i assume zone 2 is in a different room??

could you run the digital output via RCA/analogue to a different source position on the amp?

I'm not quite sure what you mean but it sounds like "incest"

Just kidding...

What you propose shouldn't work and , I'm not sure of this, may present the possibility of damage to your receiver. Remember, digital is digital & analog is analog, never the twain shall meet. In the Yamaha receivers, the only ones I can speak for, all digital & analog processing is performed by different electronics, that's why the original post in this thread had no sound in zone 2 ( analog out ) when he only had digital input.

Yep. Zone 2 is for Outside. My design was to address the situation where we wanted CDs played outside, while watching Cable inside. Hooking up both sets of cables seemed to work. The digital cables are still being used for the regular surround, while the analog are being accessed for the Zone 2. I can't see why it wouldn't work to plug the analog into unused devices... but not really required since the other scenario works properly.

Obviously I would have had to work about the analog if my wife would have been happy with speaker b and listening to the same thing inside or outside at the same time. :D

I have a somewhat different problem with my RXV757 and Zone 2, also I'm kinda new to the home theatre thing so I know it's probably my fault anyway.

I bought home and set up my RXV757 today and everything is fine, people's lips are finally moving at the same time as I hear them (stupid PDP).

For some reason the unit is displaying that Zone 2 is on and for the life of me I can not figure out how or why it's on let alone how to turn the stupid thing off. I don’t have any use for zone 2, well not yet anyway. I know its only minor but it is annoying me.

Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong please, can’t make sense of what the manual is telling me, but, as I said, I am very new to AVR's and home theatre in general.

Ah yes, this topic has come up several times before. I have the same problem with the zone 2 & 3 indicators being on every time I turn on my amp. There was a solution to this posted a couple of months ago that involved doing some macro programming on the remote control.

I didn't bother with the macro stuff as I plan to get a universal remote soon and will do the programming there, until then I just turn "pure direct" mode on then off each time I turn the amp on. That gets rid of the annoying zone 2 & 3 indicators.

Possible fix for Zone 2

Set the Zone 2 Amp to be used for the Rear surround speakers in the setup menu. In the speaker setup, indicate that there are no Rear surround speakers (5.1 setup). Maybe this will keep Zone 2 off all the time.
