Hello all - I bought a buch of the CAT5 cable and I am going to work on making the braided stuff. I was wondering though, do YOU hear any differences in these type of things. I currently have some nice Monster cable MCX-1s (yes I already know) running on my front mains but the thought of making my own and it sounding better has lead me to this...
What are some of the things I should listening for?
THANKS!!!

The wire gauge matters as does its inductance, to a smaller degree.
There was a DBT between 24ga wire, 16ga and 12ga. There was audible difference between the 24 ga, especially with test tones. No such audible difference between the 16ga and 12ga.
And, over the years there have been many DBT between wires, some published many not. To date, comparable cables are transparent, period.

Some poorly designed amps are affected by high capacitance, such as Naim amps. So passive preamps are affected by higher capacitance interconnects but that is the fault of passive preamps as they have such high output impedance.

So, if you like to do do it yourself projects, go for the cable. If you are expecting miracles, don't count on one.
