Can You Match a 12" Sub with this?

Hi Guys,

I have been devouring all I can in the last two months so that I can make a decision on which Sub-woofer is right for me. And like so many newly christened sub nuts I could use a little help in my decision. I will start with what I am working with now. I have a logitech z5500. It is basically a PC audio system with Sub-woofer. A 5.1 with 10" ported sub. for 510 watts total with 180 watts going to the sub. I like the way it sounds and for $379 total price it works for me....for now.
The room where my system is is an L shaped room ( 12 X 15 ) with 8ft ceiling for the listening area and my system is in the short part of the L. Now I recently purchased a Klipsch Synergy Sub 12 so that I'd have a deeper more rumbling type bass. The Z 5500's sub is very clean to my ears but you hear it way more than you feel it and I like to experience music and feel movies. The Klipsch definitely put more rumble in the movies and also added a deep nice bass to my music so you could feel it. The problem is that I feel like it had plenty of power that it couldn't handle without getting sloppy grounding out and rattling a bit. It just didn't sound good after a point and you get port noise. So back it went.

Now one of the subs I have been looking at and I see here mentioned all over the place are the HSU VTF-2 MK III. I can't afford the VTF-3 MK III so I won't mention it. I also liked the svs pb 10 and pb 12 but the problem is that since I use the logitech I have to connect right from my Western Digital Medial Player to the sub. That means I am using the subs crossover. From my reading it seems most people seem to think the SVS subs hit a little harder and has a slight deeper bass while the HSU is overall a little more musical but does not his quite as hard. Being that I have never heard either Im not sure which one matches my sound tastes better.

I am basically looking for a sub that works well with both Music and Movies that you can really feel but sounds clean, loud and can rumble the foundation of the house. I want a little overhead room so I have some power to spare. It would be nice to hear from someone who has owned a Klipsch 12 and now owns a svs pb 10, 12 or VTF - 2 MKIII. Again the only sub not on the menu for me is the VTF-3 that is just too much money for me. I am open to other subs that are over $499 but under $650 shipped. Please help must have serious bass !!!!

I noticed a lot of the post I see on the svs vs HSU are from a few years back, are they still amongst the best choices or are there now a lot of subs in that price range that are better.

Thanks

Julian

Simply put, no.

The problem you have is that what you refer to as the "sub" is nactually the whole brains of the "speaker system". Along with the subwoofer and it's amp, that box also contains all the amplifiers for all the other speakers in "the system", and possibly a 5.1 decoder as well.

So, as you can see, there is a whole lot more involved than just replacing the subwoofer (which is the brains of the whole system) with a "regular" subwoofer. At this point, you might want to start looking at receivers and separate speakers.

I may not have been clear enough. I am
not interested in replacing my logitech sub. I want to add a second sub to the The whole system outside of the logitech system entirely. I am able to connect one up through my media player and it worked pretty well. I jus think a better sub than the klipsch would do a better job. I know my system is a little unorthodox but my thinking was that since I had already added a second sub and liked it, a better sub would likley only sound better. If anyone is able to offer any thoughts on the subs I mentioned or subs in that category/price range please feel free to chime in. Thanks Mark for taking a look.

Most of the Klipsch subs are mediocre at best and the SVS/HSUs simply outperform them by a country mile.
