Can you copy VHS to a DVD?

We have some older movies (Apollo 13, Forest Gump, etc) on VHS. My wife wants to get a DVD recorder, and put them on DVD. Will it work?

If they are copy protected it probably will not work. I have copied a commercial VHS tape to DVD as an experiment using my PC and it worked fine but I don't know how it would work with a stand-alone recorder.

you can buy a copyright remover that will take care of all those issues for a stand alone dvd recorder.

look for the sima.

forget the model number, i had one, and sold it to another member on here for 25 bucks..

new will cost you around 60 i think, but with the price of used dvd's and the jump in quality, its almost just worth it to buy the dvd.. you can probobly find them for 5-10 bucks each unless its a new release.

I'm sorry, but why would you want to? You don't gain any quality by doing this, in most cases you'll loose quality.

Go and buy the DVD, that way you'll have great picture quality and the 5.1 Dolby Digital and/or DTS audio, this s..t's all over any VHS transfer and you don't need to buy a DVD recorder. You should be able to find those titles pretty cheap now.

.....yes, Jety, back in the haydays of VCR's, I had one between two VCR's....one 9 volt battery lasted six months or better....great copies were made straight from the walls of BlockBuster, haha....I started feeling guilty, saw the error of my ways, and added a descrambler, haha....am I worthless or what?....don't answer that.....

I agree with MACCA 350.

Tranfer only VHS that are very important to you or that you can't find anywhere in dvd. "Forrest Gump" is superb on dvd.
